Alright, here's my situation, it's not a good one, but I'm just confused. Last July I believe, I had my Celica shipped out here to California from Ohio. I went to the DMV and tried to get everything taken care of. I tried to get the car smog checked but it failed and had temp tags extended until October 07. It's now March 08 and I have not completed the registration yet. I shouldn't be driving the car on the street, so what's the first step I should take in this situation I'm in now? My car still won't pass smog check and I have an exhaust leak. Do I first go to the DMV and get a one day operating permit or something? I know I should have had everything taken care of a long time ago, but I was really low on money before and couldn't afford to fix my car or have someone pass it under the table. I was also very busy with school and work full time, only getting Sundays off. I want to get everything taken care of and get my California license plates already. I'm sure there will be fines and what not, but I just need someone to point me in the right direction.

yeah, I am sure you can get a permit that will allow you to drive it to get it fixed. But you might have you pay the fees to take it off non-op. I know people get extensions so they can drive their vehicle to get fixed or daily until it could it could get fixed. I would do that first. Go to the DMV and see what you can work out.
