Hey guys,
I know our celicas are ODB I but which one do we know to get. Can someone point me in the right direction and get me started to find the right one for my car. I really need this for diagnostics. Thanks. -------------------- 94 Celica GT

Correct me if I'm wrong, I think 94 and 95 are OBD-I
96 and later years are OBD-II If you have OBD-I, you can diagnose it by hooking up TE1 and E1 in diagnostic port located in the engine bay. Then you can read error code by counting the blinking engine light. http://www.celicatech.com/imagearchive/bgb...ne/EG/EG117.htm -------------------- _Gary

mine just does a blink, off, blink, off, blink, off, constant. I did not see a blink, a significant pause, and then continuous blinks to determine if there was an error. i think there is a problem but according to the blinks if I am reading right, that is normal, unless my eyes don't see the pause or blinks well enough.

continuous blinks means no codes.
when there is a code, it blinks in sequence. for instance for code 21 it will go blink (quick pause) blink (((long pause))) blink....and repeat it over and over. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Just to revive this thread real quick, what if I wanted to use an autoscanner, what and where is a good place to get one, even a cheap one that might meet the needs of other import vehicle manufacturers?

You just need a paper clip to read your codes, see Celicatech archive for complete instructions and code definitions, or search for the thread I put up with the tech manual DL, and see document entitled G Tests with Codes for all the info you need.

theres several different machines you can get to read different diagnostics about your car - if its obd1 its alot cheaper to short the terminals and compare to a code chart - if you need to get a machine to read them, i think they run $500+
if its obd2, some cars and machines work together to help you further see whats going on, like injectors etc if you feel the need to get that detailed, also a general oscilliscope can be used for most advanced tunning and such may i ask why you want to purchase such a piece of equipment? -------------------- you know why they put sheep at the edge of a cliff.... that way they push back!

QUOTE(trdproven @ Feb 24, 2008 - 2:02 AM) Not just for the celica but for other imports falling into the OBDI Actron is a nice one it ranges from $80-$200 and you can pick one up at Advanced Auto Parts, NAPA, Autozone, or Pepboys Snap-On your looking at about $800 with a $100s a year for upgrades, where the actron is free http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail....tegoryCode=3389 This post has been edited by hatchy_gt-s: Feb 24, 2008 - 9:54 PM |
