So, I bought my celica (1996 GT) 3 months ago. It's a blast to drive and I like it. I want to get a supercharger for it (NO TURBOS OR NOS) strictly supercharger. Any advice? Any suggestions?? Cost?? Mods needed?? Thanks!

First off, this should have been posted in the "Forced Induction" section of the forum, but since your new, no harm done. The only supercharger kit that was ever produced for the 5SFE was made by RIPP modifications. They used to run about $3800, but they didnt sell all that well, and RIPP has discontinued them. Ive heard from some people on the site back when ripp discontinued them that they would consider re-manufacturing them for a small bulk number, ie 15 or 20 kits, but other than that, i think your out of luck.
If you do want a bit more punch in your GT though, another option, even though you posted that your not interested in it, would be doing a 5SFTE setup. It would cost about the same to make a relaible kit as it would to buy a supercharger kit now, if you could find one. If done right, the 5SFTE setup can be extreamly relaible. Just take a look at Pressure2's car. Hes been running the same setup for over 2 years now with no issues. |

I already spent $13,000 on an eagle talon fully built motor with 30 psi potential. It was fully and professionally built with forged pistons, decked block and head, hks cams, big 16g turbo ported and clipped, 750cc injectors, full programmable ecu, fully opened exhaust, everything. It was nasty and very powerful. BUT it cost me lots of cash, I spun all 4 bearings after only 1000 miles into the engine and had to pay another 1700 bucks to repair the crank and bearings, then 1500 miles into it, the tune got knock off somehow (never figured it out though I rigorously tried to pin point everything and anything, found nothing) and then under 22 psi I blew out the head gasket which was a cometic HG with treated studs, fully and correctly torqued, and that's what happened. Lotta cash for short lived project. So I really don't want to turbo...only supercharger (it's more of a bolt on type job and less headache plus I won't have the addiction of more boost leading to more $$ in repairs).

There is no supercharger.
I don't know how it's less of a headache. It's more work, a friend of mine has been trying to supercharge is Tib for 2 years with nothing but headaches. This post has been edited by Supersprynt: Mar 22, 2008 - 2:55 PM -------------------- |

I never though about taking the super-charger route; so i haven't researched it at all. I had just seen that one at a glance. It was just something "i passed by in the store". lol. When he mentioned wanting a supercharger, that was listed on andy's site as a 94-99 Celica Supercharger and i assumed the stores information to be accurate. Thanks for the clarification. 6G96GT listen to these guys! i don't know anything-much about supercharging the 6g celicas. -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! Thanks for the info guys...I'm going to start looking into that 3SGE engine...I really only want about 200 horses ultimately and it looks like the 3SGE starts around 173-177 as I was informed. I just want "a little" bit more, I had my share of fast cars and I'm just not interested anymore in getting past the 200 mark.

You don't have to look for a kit to supercharge your engine. You can make your own kit or take it to a good shop to have them custom install a supercharger on your engine. People do it all the time. You already know its gonna take time and money. As long as you know exactly what you need you should be alright.

I can attest to the supercharger=problems. I have one of the few RIPPMODS kits for the celica. Fully built block and ported and polished head. Im having really bad vaccum issues which are causing spongy brakes and i can't get the car to hold idle without having to give it gas. The little time that it was running and driveable I will say it was amazing. Also since nobody else really deals with this RIPPMODS kit I am having the hardest time getting advice from people especially since not many have experience with it. Bummer.
