Does anyone else have an engine bay mounted reservoir and where it is mounted. Did you need to take any other systems out (EGR, charcoal canister etc).
I'm looking into getting a W/I system for my car, but can't seem to find a way to route lines from the trunk to the engine bay. That leaves me with mounting the reservoir inside the engine bay. I was looking around under the car and it seems there may be space behind the drivers side wheel fender. There is a black hard plastic/metal squarish box located there. What is this box for and can I take it out? |

The box I think you are referring to can be removed, It is a factory air resonator box for your air intake. It is useless and does nothing for you, it is actually an improvement to remove the box. So yes that spot would be perfect, there is also 3 good bolting locations which you can use to mount your W/I tank.
Find post below showing this box and how to remove. Awesome useful celica tips and repair info This post has been edited by zCelicaDude: Mar 24, 2008 - 2:27 AM |

Yes that is the box I was talking about. I remember it had something to do with the factory intake, but couldn't think of what it was called (resonator).
I guess I'll try to remove it and see if I can mount the tank/pump somewhere in there. |

There is really not a whole lot of room in the engine bay. You COULD mount it under washer fluid tank, and use that same tank for your injection. But the best way to do it is to put it in the trunk. All you have to do is run the lines down the passengers side of the car under the door stills, and then go into the engine bay through the hole for the factory wiring harness.
Whatever you do, remember that your going to want a fairly big tank, and to have it someplace thats easy to fill and easy to check. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

Also remember that you want the pump to be below the tank. You dont want the pump "pulling" the fluid out, you'd rather have gravity working in your favor. I have mine in the trunk, the tank mounted above the pump and it works fine. I also ran the lines under the carpet of the trunk, and down the drivers side of the car.

These ideas are great for the people planning on going with the water injection kit with their swap or their turbo set-up. I know I will be mounting it in the trunk. Its a cooler spot to put it and yes, checking it will be soo much easier.
So the water lines running under the door sills won't get pinched at all? -------------------- 98 Celica gt red- totaled deer

QUOTE(bccentaur3 @ Mar 24, 2008 - 2:23 PM) So the water lines running under the door sills won't get pinched at all? Nope. Theres already lines running in that same location that supply washer fluid to the rear window nozzle. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

Why should you have to check it..... LAME.... I have a setup im making right now to make a sensor to trip a red led to light at a certain level of the tank. It would suck to be running hard and not realize that you are out. If anyone is interested in how im doing this let me know.... Im not gonna do a write up or anything if no one wants to know how to make it.... I feel as though I should say though mine is not for water injection... its for an intercooler sprayer. Same principle though.... A fluid tank with a pump.... I have a push button for the IC spray that kicks a green led to show that you are spraying, but next to it is a red led that lights up when the tank reaches a set level. Let me know if you want pics and a write up... if not..... yeah make sure you mount it where you can check it often....

Lagos, I was going to run lines down the pass side, under the sill, but as you might know, I have jay's old car (convertible) and I do not know how to remove the rear 1/4 interior plastic, or the rear seats..
I also don't want to just "feed" them through the spaces and "feel" for them on the other end, because I do not want the lines to interfere with the top or the rear 1/4 glass when they are down. |
