get a Full Tune Up your car (plugs, wires, o2 sensor, ect.); and a Full Tune Down on the right foot. and spray it with some sea-foam or cleaner chemicals while your at it.

QUOTE(Badkarma @ Mar 27, 2008 - 2:39 AM) well, i bought the celica with hopes of getting Much better gas mileage than my other car. 1999 mustang 3.8 v6 5 spd. so i filled it up last week, set the trip, and today the trip meter hit 280 miles and i was due for a fill up. well, it took 14.4 gallons. it comes out to about 19.5 miles per gallon. my mustang gets 21 average! i've gotten up to 30!. this really was quite a let down. i still love the celica but is everyone getting such horrible mpg? maintainance is kept up. runs great. plugs, wires, filters. only thing i can think of is it needs of an alignment. what else could be the problem? thanks, sorry for knocking the celi's. Erich 25-28 city 30-34 hwy 94gt 5spd 5sfe I drive it like I stole it. |

You should see a nice increase in mpg. Also check your airbox or air filter |

hey, I only get 17-19 mpg... but my car is turbo.
check your tire pressure for sure. OEM spec is 33 PSI, but for slightly better milage, you could run them a little higher like 38 PSI or so. other than that, everyone has covered everything else you need to know. if your car is mechanically in good condition it should get better milage. GT's are rated for 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. -------------------- 94 GT - Sold -------- 69 Pontiac Lemans - Sold 88 Alltrac - Sold ---- 04 WRX - Sold 00 GT-S - Sold ------ 91 Miata - project/drift car 95 GT - Sold -------- 96 GT - New Daily Drive |

Definitely dude.... you should be able to get better than what you are getting One thing i love about my st...... stomping on it and riding her hard, i still get 400-500 mpt before having to fill up(depending on if it's all highway or if its a mix) -------------------- |

either there is something wrong with your car or something wrong with your foot. i drive 60 miles a day, in a GT, in Houston, and i only fill up once a week, and that also includes BS driving. last i checked i was getting over 350 miles on a tank and that was with a bad VSV, plugs, and wires. LOVE THESE CARS!

i really haven't been beating on the car. it's been mostly highway because i've taken a few trips to the houston oreily's racetrack.(haven't run it) and i set cruise for 70.
its a 1996 hatchback automatic. maintainance has been kept up. fuel filter, oil filter, oil, air filter, pcv valve, spark plugs, and wires. only thing you all seem to be listing off that i haven't change is the o2 sensor(s). im going to try to keep it under 3k rpms, and fastest at 60mph on the highway. im just going to drive it very easy until the next fill up. i really was hoping for 25-30. ill let you guys know how i do when i fill up next week. So far: MpT:290..ish MpG:19.5 Thanks. Erich. |

Make sure it's pushed in, not pushed out. BAM!! abra-kadabra you'll retain alot more fuel. high-MPH, low-Gear.... I wonder why? .................. Erich. your problem is the automatic transmission. my 97 ST as an auto would get exactly the same miles per tank, usually about 280 and would never make it to 300. after the tranny swap I drove it nice and easy and got just about 450 to that first full tank of gas, I was amazed for weeks. then I got comfortable with it and started beating on it and now I'm averaging about 350 to a tank. -------------------- |

Me and my buddy took a trip to California last week. When I was driving at night, the car was getting about 370 miles on half a tank of gas. I just kept the RPM a little above 2k by driving about 60mph. At 60mph with some cool weather, I can get nearly 700 miles to the tank. I never accelerate hard. The car has had a very easy life.
