I'm trying to decide which piggy back to get. I'm thinking of getting the apexi afc neo, but wanted other suggestions and or reviews of people using this. Any info would be nice.

I was having a discussion with Rick (rjbibeau) and he says the perfect power smt6 is awesome. I picked up the afc neo and I feel that if you have the money get something that can control fuel and timing. I WAS on a budget, but if I would have known better I would have gone with the smt6.
After I build my motor I'm looking into getting the smt7 over the smt6. We'll see. -------------------- 98 Celica gt red- totaled deer

I wouldnt get a piggy back ECU for an ST205.......the overall best / cheapest option would be to try to find a Blitz Access ECU.....plug n play and with some tremendous results over on the GT4 owners club...hard to get hold of but they are out there.

Yeah, I think the most affordable route for the 3rd gen as far as ECU goes is a Mines/Blitz tuned stock unit.
The biggest drawback is that you're pretty much stuck with whatever tune the owner in Japan decided to go with. ![]() I think the BEST solution is something that tuners at the dyno will be familiar with, and theres really only a few choices that are plug and play with a 3rd gen harness. These include Apexi Power FC, HKS F-Con V Pro (very few authorized tuners for HKS units) or the best that I've found, which is the Hydra Nemesis. http://www.koracing.net/viewproduct.php?fo...amp;product=101 ![]() KO Racing makes a plug-and-play Gen 3 Hydra Nemesis for the MR2, and that will work no problem with a ST205. You might need to hard-wire up an intercooler pump circuit if you retain the W2A intercooler, otherwise its all plug and play with unlimited tunability. -Corey -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

Sorry but niether the Hydra Nemesis nor the Power FC are plug n play...both will require extensive mapping to get them to work correctly...(you might also want to consider the Link G3)
If you go down the Hydra/link route then dont worry about pumps etc as pretty much anything can be prgrammed into or out of those ECU`s. No hard wiring of intercooler pumps required at all. |

Insanity-74,
By plug and play, I was referring to the installation process of the ECU, not the ability to plug it in and go flog the car immediately. ![]() The question of the intercooler pump wiring isnt a concern at all, since you would only need a simple on/off curcuit setup by a 4-pin relay. It would probably be more difficult to setup an aftermarket ECU to switch on a pump than it would be to just hook up the relay to the battery for power, 12v to the pump, COR for switch signal, and switch ground. The Hydra Nemesis setup sold by KO Racing comes with a fully re-pinned breakout junction box (seen in the picture I included) that matches all the stock harness plugs on the 3rd gen 3SGTE ECU, so it most certainly is plug and play. They also include a base map for the 3rd gen on a CD so you can upload the basic parameters to get the engine started....no mapping issues, just a visit to the dyno to tack down some good AFR's and timing. Apexi included a pre-wired jumper harness with their Power FC units for the ST205, so theres no wiring involved unless of course you choose to run things differently yourself. Only difference with that ECU is that you need to enter the basic engine parameters on your own on a laptop to get the engine started....i.e. displacement, timing advance, turbo or non turbo, etc. Either way you'll be able to plug your three factory ECU plugs right into either unit via a pre-wired harness, and get the engine started without too much hassle/mapping of your own. However you will obviously need to pay a visit to the dyno to get a good tune before you go boosting. I think the biggest factor with tuning is this.....if you get a reflashed ECU, you will have to send it overseas to get it setup and tuned....meanwhile, your car is halfway around the world and the tuner really can't truely dial in what is ideal for your car because he's nowhere near it. ![]() At least thats how I see it. I would hope that with any 3sgte enable ECU that you buy then "plugging it in" will be a relitavely simple process. |

Then by that definition, the only engine management options that are "plug and play" would be a reflashed stock ECU, and thats it...
![]() ....Although the issue at hand isnt really the definition of plug and play I supppose, but we both presented options that are available for aftermarket ECUs for the ST205. Most any other aftermarket ECU would need to be wired up, one lead at a time. The ones I listed will plug into the factory ST205 harness connectors, so hence why I say plug and play. -Corey -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

just to add my 2c.
ive got a mr2 power fc Pro in my 205 (soft and hard limiters and launch control ![]() they are plug and play and come with a base map so you can start and drive to your tuning shop with the map thats in it no dramas, it'll run rich as all sh!t but your only driving to the shop. the base map is not there so you can flog your car, its simply an a to b thing, it'll have less power and use more juice then the stocker would anyway. Wolf also make plug and play, and link, and Haltech -------------------- ST205 Group A Rallye GT-Four, #61 of 77............600hp GT3582r
