Anyone done this with our cars yet? I love the targa top style on cars and am looking into what I'd be getting into possibly. I'm guessing a custom roll cage would probably be good for extra support n such.... Anyone have any comments or suggestions/ideas?

Anyone have any comments or suggestions/ideas? i wouldn't mess with it because it will really compromise the chassis. i do think it would look good on a hatch though. it's too bad they didn't do it on our cars or atleast t tops like the mr2 -------------------- |

not if you do it right!!
a vert is already reinforced. get the roof from a coupe, and put it on a vert. then cut the t shape. Verts can ride wide open. Get a custom made Carbon fiber T shape hard top, that can be mounted while the original vert top is tucked in. pricey, but will look good. -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... It won't work. We have a unibody. If you go cutting into it like that, you'll be breaking a few safety regulations. It's been talked about for years before you got here, and nobody has done it because everyone knows it isn't quite practical.

if you are going to do all this work to get it done proper why not just save yourself time and money and get a supra?
sure i suppose you could do it with a vert and do a custom top but IMO i think it will look like shat. our car isn't designed to have that huge gap in the roof. you will probably waste the car and hurt yourself badly. anytime you modify anything that has to do with the frame of a car like that (without professional know how and a lot of resources) you will most likely end up killing yourself. the way i see this whole topic is kinda like thinking about putting a 2jz in our car. sure it sounds freaking sweet and everyone wants to do it, but after thinking about it logically it's just not worth it. -------------------- |

hmm i dunno about this, i can see it being a possibility and honestly way to much work. to many variables to consider this honestly feasable. but never say never im sure there is someone out there with the brain to design and another person with the hands to do it. never say never in today's world.

no..not nessarily...with proper reinforcement bars in differnt places..a correct roll cage its actually very easy to reinforce the car...if not better then what it was when it came from the factory....espically if you make your own frame...it soundds like a lot of work but when you have the tools and people with the knowldge and skills you need its not so much out of the question...you guys are too straight forward and not thinking outside the box....define the laws a little bit and engineer something that will work...yes its a lot of time and hard work but its also a passion...you dont do it caus you have to..you do it caus you want to....and i dont want a supra...supras cost to much....maybe not an auto x car but i want to take everyhting out of it and drive it on the street....and maybe from time to time take it to a road corse close to where i live for a little fun....but i seriously doubt i will be competing. Its just a matter of preference guys...anything can be done if you set your mind to it
