Hi, this is my first post on this forum, as well as my first car so bare with me. My first questions is about the engine. From reading this link http://www.6gc.net/information/7 I understand that I have an 5S-FE engine. But somewhere else on the forum I saw terms being used such as these (AT200, ST200, ST201...) What are these numbers and how do I find out (by looking under the hood if possible) which one mine is? I searched and found that the AT is related with the ST trim, and the ST is related to the GT trim but i couldn't find out what the numbers meant.
Also, I bought this 94 GT with 117000 miles on it for 3000. The car is in perfect shape. Will this car make is past 200,000 miles most likely? And my last question is, is it worth it to put out money for upgrades on a car with 117000 miles (I plan on keeping it until it something really bad goes like trans). I'm talking about stuff like a full exhaust system. I not an idiot and I am not going to race it. I just want the experience of working on the engine as I am a car noob. I appreciate answers to any one of the questions. |

hey . the GT is st204. it should be engraved on teh firewall.
and praying that the previous owner took good care of the car, it should make it to 200,000 miles. it really depends on how it was treated since its so old right now. but there are alot of people who are close to 200k or past. and about the upgrades, small things such as an exhaust or intake shouldnt hurt the engine or shorten the life. if you want to roll with the big boys you'll have to engine swap it |

Even with decent care most Celica's make it way past 200km. Its a very good economy sports car. With a swap it can become a fast one too.
And this is the full write up on the chassic codes (AT200, ST202 etc...). These are mainly used because different region Celica's had different engines/specs. It's all explained there. http://www.6gc.net/information/3 This post has been edited by black13: Apr 1, 2008 - 1:39 AM |

daazndood, when you say swap it, what exactly are you talking about? Putting in a newer engine with less miles or something?
Thank you for your responses. |

by swapping he meant putting a more powerful engine in it, usually a 3s-gte.
welcome to the board the ST204 - xxxxxx is located on the firewall (directly behind the engine), that would be your chassis number. I wouldn't really worry about the tranny, it's best quallty is that it's very strong and you can get up to 200K miles easliy on your motor if you do some routine maintenance (tune ups, fluid changes, ect) and some bigger things like water pump and timing belt. -------------------- |
