On Saturday night, there was a big car meet for one of the local car clubs (dont know which one, but i think son240sx.ca or GTcars.com), about 35 cars showed up at a parking garage in a Toronto mall (Yorkville).

At about 9:15pm, some of the people at the meet where driving along highway 7 in North York in a bunch of different cars. Befor they left, one of the people at the meet decided to start doing doughnuts in a 300zx which brought on police attention.

Because of the burnouts and doughnuts that this driver did, the police put their elite anti-street racing team was called in. Without them noticing, the police fallowed them and setup a roadblock. As they left a set of lights, a guy in a white skyline GTS-T left with some speed, but was only about 10km over the speed limit, as soon as he did, a black Chevy tahoe pulled up behind him and threw on the cherries. As soon as he did, the unmarked cars making the roadblock infront did the same, as well as the helicopter fallowing above. One of the guy from the Toronto Subaru club was around them in his pickup as it happened and snapped these pics.

These cops are almost like SWAT, like full SWAT gear, including sub-machine guns.

All in all, 3 skylines, the paseo, and the porche were all impounded and the drivers charged with street racing. But all in all, from the entire event, including the meet, 206 charges were laid.

Toronto is really starting to crack down on street racing. One of my co-workers was in a car that was pulled over by these guys on a highway here in Toronto. These officers came out with full SWAT gear on, submachine guns aimed at them and all.

As a warning to any one in Ontario who is wanting to set-up a meet, or is having a meet. Organzie ahead, make sure its ok to be on the property, dont be stupid (IE reving, burnouts, clutch drops, speeding, etc), and lookout for a black Chevy Tahoe on the way home.

We had the same thing happen here too. Helicopters and cop cars surrounding us. We just left and met back up behind a McDonalds about a block away and haven't had a problem since then. This was about 2 years ago or so. This was a meet of probably 50 or more cars.

apparently the MTO (ministry of Transportation) is really trying to crack down on any street racing. They have been doing raids like this for over a year now, but this was the first time any cars have been impounded and this many charges have been laid. The Toronto Police department along with OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) and MTO officers are making a bunch of these SWAT style units to battel street racing. They are planning on setting up 3 divisions per sector of the city, so 3 devisions covering Etobicoke, 3 covering North York, woodbridge, downtown, scarbrough, markham, east york, etc.

The reason they are armed is because the laws regarding street racing and speeding in Ontario are pretty strict. Like if your caught going 50km/hr over the limit, they revoke your liscence on the spot, impound your car for a minimum of 4 days, take somethin like 6 points off your lisence (i think theres only 10 at most in Ontario), and can find u up to $50K, depending on the judge and how much over the limit you where going. Also, if you cannot pay for every thing, impound fee, towing, fines, etc. They do a forfit of assests, aka, they take your car..and if your convicted of street racing or excessive speeding and they do take possesion of your car, it gets crushed.

The laws for street racing are almost identical, just the fines are minimum $5k and your lisence is suspended for at least 1 year. Plus alot of street racers or any one who gets tagged doing over the limit usually trys to run, hense why they pull guns on them. Personaly, if i was caught "street racing", i sure as hell would stop if i had an MP5 pointed at me.

I think in 2006 in Toronto alone, we had somethin like 15 or 16 deaths related to street racing, and most of them were insocent people who happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Thats why the OPP, MTO and TPD have made this SWAT team kinda thing for street racing and why the pull guns on the drivers when they are stopped. They first started pulling guns on people maybe 7 or 8 years ago, but that was only if your doing 100km/h over the limit, which some people still do.

Was there any actual street racing?

not involved with thouse guys, but the MTO considers any 2 cars accelerating at a more then normal rate in excess of 5km/h over the posted speed limit side by side, street racing. So pretty much if i pulled up to an instersection, started to accelerate, and needed to move over to the next lane, but the guy beside me wants to be a dick and match my speed..if i speed up to pass him and im doing somethin like 5 or 6km/hr faster then the posted limit, i can get nailed with a street racing ticket.

The worst part about this whole thing is that they targeted some decent guys who were just out for a meet. I actually know the guy who got his Paseo taken away. Hes a great guy, likes to meet up with people, learn stuff from people, show off his car (custom body kit, RSX tail lights, 4EFTE motor swap, custom interior and sound system). And he got nailed that night for being around these guys in the skylines.

MEANWHILE, on the other side of the city, there was probably 4 or 5 other actuall illegal drag races going on. Working in a speedshop, i know where these places are and when they race, but cops are more focused on cracking down on RHD cars because its effecting the business of car dealers around town. IE, you go to a used car dealership intown, u find an S13 240sx, it will be pretty rough around the edges, usually high km, starting to rust a bit, guy will ask $3000...OR, you get a RHD 180SX or 200SX imported from japan, with the motor you want, better condition body, lower km, some modifications, and u will pay between $4500 - 7K for one.

You know what's really stupid, that they're closing down racing at tracks in ontario too which will most likely provoke more street racing and can't do nothing about it. One way or another, we're gonna find some way and some where to host these underground races.
I've known this for awhile, not sure why i never made a thread about it, perhaps i will.

Wow. anytime i put on a meet i get property ok and even contact the local police.

The last large one I did brought about 300 cars and I let the local police know and told them to come on by and feel free to ticket anyone doing anything dumb.
