looks amazing! I wanna know everything about your set-up and all. lol. How much time did you spend sanding, and what grit(s) did you use? what kind and how much paint did you use? what kind of gun did you use? and how much did it all cost you?

sorry for all the questions but I've been considering doing my own paint job too so I wanna know all this stuff.

lolz yeah sure no probs 6strngs **edit April 13th, 2008 - 8:09 PM**

gun is a sharpe 1.4mm i think ( $450 )

took me 6hrs. a day for 8 days of sanding and body work. last block on the 8th day was final prepping. 9th day Primer and PAINT!!

used glazing putty for the small dings and used body filler (light weight filler) for the rear quarter damage i didnt know was there.

i used 120 4 sheets for the bondo'd area with a bondo cutter
220 15 sheets to sand down some rust spots and dings
used 320 3 sheets to sand down the spots where i used glazing putty.
also used 320 (re-used paper) for the 1st stage of wet sanding the whole body
then i went over again with the wet sanding with 400 10 sheets , total cost of sand paper was about $60

be prepared to spend alot of time doing the body work and wet sanding the body.

then i went over with 600 2 sheets to match the body worked are with the rest of the body to make everything even.

i bought 1 gallon of paint - $95
i think it was 1/2 gallon paint reducer - $35
and 1 quart paint hardener. - $20
with 2 quarts primer - $25 per quart so $50

**note i bought more than needed only cuz im putting 4 coats of color**

the pics you see is only 2 layers, sorry i dont have a better camera to take close ups of the minor "orange peel" spots.

then i went ahead and bought 5 10ft. x 20ft. plastic to cover my garage (on sale for $15 a bundle, original price $32).
of course staples $5

and 4 rolls of painters tape $12 + alot of newspaper.

i bought the paint at a Napa auto store i took a pic of the paint and gun but i'll post later i just wanna get this brain info. dump out before i forget.

it all cost about a good $400 ****(not including the gun)**** for the supplies, lunch $15 , drinks $6, painters mask $3( ski mask will do ), and that respirator thingy filter $35 2 pairs ( only bought the filters cuz we have 2 ).

my dad invested in that water catcher ($80) that connects to the compressor hose, to of course catch any water so it doesnt mix with the paint and messes up your whole day.

what else.............hmmmm i cant think of anything at the moment but if i did miss something i'll post.

You dont park under those coconut trees often do you? If a falling coconut can kill a person imagine what it can do to your celica's hood.

yes in almost all of the sanding. for the edges i wanted to save like the hood and fender flares i just used a box of card with 400grit.

haha yeah i dont ever park under ANY tree. theres the bird doodoo problem and the falling seeds or in this case coconuts.

i just wished that my paint job was a little more orange peel-less and with the clear coat. so i could get that coconut tree with the sun pic on my hood.

my friend one time placed his surf board under a coconut tree and walked away, only to come back to his now 2 piece surf board laugh.gif laugh.gif so yeah they're killer wink.gif
