Thank you very much corey, i think i will just have to drop a 3sgte motor in. my car has done over 120k miles so she does deserve a new motor.
Yeh i need to do some research on this.. like you said probably best to speak to someone who has made this swap, there are some questions only people who have made this swap will be able to answer.. A few that come to my mind are.. Does the 3sgte engine have to come from a celica Gt4 or can it be from a Mr2? Will the st202 gearbox mate with the 3sgte engine? Engine mounts? will that be an issue? clutch? Ecu? If anyone has a 3sgte engine for sale please let me know. omar |

Omar,
It's probably better to ask those questions in a new thread, rather then hijacking this one. I've got the answers for all those questions! Back to topic - Paul, thanks for the quick comparison. Were you able to find the axles lengths in the BGB? Thanks, Scott -------------------- Scott

Yes I did,
Standard axle lengths: 5S-FE/3S-FE (M/T): Left: 572,4 +/- 5,0 mm Right: 857,5 +/- 5,0 mm 7A-FE: Left: 559,2 +/- 5,0 mm Right: 854,9 +/- 5,0 mm 3S-GE w/ LSD (E56): Left: 573,2 +/- 5,0 mm Right: 861,5 +/- 5,0 mm 3S-GE w/o LSD (S54): Left: 576,2 +/- 5,0 mm Right: 863,8 +/- 5,0 mm I don't know the MR2 standard axle lengths, because in the MR2 Factory Manual they use different reference points. The length that's measured in the Celica BGB is the whole axle w/o the entire last part that goes in the wheelbearing, so not only the splines but w/o the entire piece. My swap has been completed, I just driving around with it right now. I'm very happy about it. I hope to continue the story soon. -------------------- Converted JDM '98 GT-Four to LHD, check my site: Celica GT.nl |

Time for an update!
PART 2: Maintaining the 3S-GTE engine After I pulled the 3S-GTE engine from the GT-Four, it was time for some maintenance. I replaced the following parts:
• V-belt • V-belt powersteeringpump • Clutch, including pressureplate and bearing • Spark plugs • Fuel filter • Engine Oil and Oilfilter • Coolant • Intercooler Coolant (Toyota Longlife Red) • Gearbox oil • Brakefluid (DOT 3 or better) • Clutch fluid (is the same as brakefluid)
• Accelerator cable *, LHD, ST205, part nr. 78180-2D310, EUR 155,90 inc taxes Some of the replacement parts Timingbelt I removed the crankshaftpulley bolt using this special tool, though it's easier to loosen the bolt when the engine is still in the car Upper cover removed Engine mount removed, you kan see the green tensioner clearly now Mounted new timingbelt, timing is exactly the same as before Placed the covers back on and installed a (new) crankshaft pulley, the old one was damaged during removal unfortunately Clutch Before you can access the clutch the gearbox has to come off. Since I can't use the E154 gearbox, it needed to come off anyway. Be aware that the gearbox is heavy (40 - 50 kg). Don't drop it on your toe's like I did. Fortunately I weared workboots. Removed the gearbox Removed the pressureplate and the frictionplate. The flywheel was still ok Cleaned the new pressureplate with brakecleaner Mounted the pressureplate with the frictionplate in it on the flywheel. Used my eyes to center it After the E56 transmission was removed, I changed the release bearing Sparkplugs and valvecover During replacement of the sparkplugs I found out that the valvecovergasket was leaking, because there was oil in the sparkplugshafts. Removed the valvecover Oil in the sparkplug shafts Cleaned the oil out and replaced the sparkplugs Installed valvecover with new gaskets After all the maintenance was completed I pulled the 3S-GE engine from my ST202. See part three for that. -------------------- Converted JDM '98 GT-Four to LHD, check my site: Celica GT.nl |
