I need some forged rods for my 7a-fe, i will be using wiseco forged pistons listed for a 4a-ge (same bore) but i need forged rods with a stroke of 3.36" or 85.5mm
i have searched for rods with that length and the closest i can get is 3.38"/86.0mm listed for a 2JZ-GTE. the length seems good but will the rods fit correctly? any help would be great. thanks, dustin |

Theres a lot more than just the length that you need to be looking at. Call Eagle or Carillo and they'll be able to hook you up with some custom rods that will fit (for a price of course).

alright, thanks man, ill check it out.
but while i was searching i did come across a tech article about converting a 4a-ge to a 7a-gze and they mentioned knowing someone with forged rods for a 7a-fe. he didnt mention who had them or who made them or whether they were custom or not, just that they do exist. forged rods are a critical peice of the puzzle. well i called race engineering and the guy i spoke with told me that custom forged rods are usually around $700...god damnit! but he also told me to send one of my stock rods in to him and he would see if theres one mass produced that will match up to it. but ill let you know what he tells me.
thanks DB |

Thats cool, sounds like you're going about it right. That $700 figure probably isnt' too far off...but remember...if you treat them right, they'll be the last rods you'll ever buy for that engine. The guys in that business are very good at finding pre-existing parts that will work with a little machine work. I'd be willing to bet that they'll be able to hook you up for less than $700 but either way you'll have to wait a while. Thats the price of engine development.

well, so everyone knows, you cannot do any better than $700 for custom rods, the guy at race engineering told me that a $600 Wiseco honda rod is the closest one to mine and i would need to buy the matching honda crank and then get the parts machine quite a bit. so to make a long story short i will be leaving my 7a stock and saving up for a different car, especially since i found out that the performance transaxle is a no go. to say the least, im a little disapointed. thanks for all you guy's time and effort helping me along the way, but turboing the 7a is just not an option anymore, so i will be looking into either the 3s swap or just getting another car.
thanks again, DB |

Yup Crower is the ticket. Its not gonna be cheap to build this engine right but the increased reliability will be worth the extra money.
