I ordered an Alpine CDA-9885 from crutchfield last week and just got it in the mail yesterday. I also bought the XM tuner for it. I got everything installed and wired up today, and I LOVE IT. I was so done with local radio that I was about ready to pop my eardrums with toothpicks. Wiring the satellite antenna also made me feel very futuristic so +5 points for me. The problem is that after putting everything back together all of the lights except the rear defrost button on my A/C unit no longer work. Neither the symbols light up, nor do the green lights above the buttons lite up when I select where I want the air. If ALL the lights didn't work I would think I forgot to plug something in, but since that one is still on I just have to assume that jolting a bunch of 11 year old bulbs around causes them to break. Does anyone know who was doing the LED upgrades to the A/C units? He was making the lights blue and red and the temp setting knob would change from blue to red as you adjusted the temp. I think it was pittfirefighter but I couldn't locate the old thread, either through browsing this forum or reading through his old posts. Any help on that would be fantastic, and I had to share with someone about another upgrade to the car smile.gif.

it was me but i really haven't had any time to work on them lately.... now it is possible that the lights are just off due to the fuse size for the radio/lights... it all uses the same fuse so the alpine unit with the XM tuner might be pulling more power and the lights aren't getting what they need... this is just a possibilty... otherwise the bulbs can be replaced from the back side with new ones which i have... not brand new but working.... the LED mod just has been way too much of a PITA and time consuming for me to be working on them. If i get around to doing them again... i will be sure to let you know

EDIT: the bulbs can be replaced without taking any screws out of the unit... just from turning it around and looking at the back.... and i have been crazy busy due to college which totally sucks... just had to say that

I've got that same deck and I love it. I hooked up my Ipod to it to combat the worn-out radio stations. I just need speakers now, what kind do you plan on getting or are ya staying stock?

But if the deck was pulling too much power wouldn't that cause all of the lights to go out? The fact that the rear defrost button symbol and on light stay on are is what throws me off. I suppose I could just unplug the deck and see if all the lights come back on. Also, any hints on how to remove the A/C unit? Does the wire that connects to the temp control unhook somehow, or do I have to unscrew the screw that sits on top of the white plastic piece bolted to the back of the unit?

My speakers in the front are something by Blaupunkt and in the rear I have a set of Clarions. I like the Clarions but I'm going to replace the front ones sometime soon.

the rear def. might be on a different fuse? just a thoguht i am in calss rite now (yea college sucks) but that would be my guess ill look when i get out of class but its either that or u broke the bulbs or something along those lines but led's are cheap so if you had to replace them its not a spendy project and if you do change them and it works then +10 points so your setting on a hole 15 total!!!! what the hell are you going to to with all those points!

Time to eat some humble pie...and take away my points. When I was putting the dash and console back together I *ahem* forgot...to plug the A/C controls back in. I would have thought of that right away but I'm still confused as to why the rear defroster still worked, unless I only unplugged one and there are two plugs back there. So now everything works great smile.gif. Pitt, let me know if you get the time and want to make some money doing that mod, I pay quick and ship fast.
