I was wondering... i believe my GT has the 6 speaker setup, and I wanted to know if keeping the factory amp would be a better option than using my headunit as my amp. This is because my headunit powers 50wattsx4channels, but i dont know if thats ok for the tweeters as well. Isnt the stock amp designed to take the 6 speaker setup however? does anyone have any opinion of what might sound better... using my headunit to power all the speakers or using the stock amp to? Thanks guys!

Thanks guys! your head unit does 50x4 peak so take 50(.707) and you get RMS and the factory amp will do better than that. how ever their is a kit you can buy/make to run a after market head unit with the factory amp. but if your looking for a nice clean soundning set up and dont want to the factory amp jsut buy a nice after maket one and run your tweaters in with your 6.6 or 4's not sure what comes in the 6 speaker set up i think its a 4.25 but i might be wrong but ya run them with the tweaters and buy a cross over so you dont but mid bass in into your tweaters lol thats not good.. then run your eights in the door off of the same amp assuming you bought a 4 channel and you will have nice mid base but again i would ru na cross over on the eights to keep your highs from playing out of them and run the rear 6in speakers of of the rear channel of the head unit....but thats a lot of time and money so maybe your better off doing it your way lol cant say i didnt give my input good luck This post has been edited by addictions: Apr 18, 2008 - 8:49 AM -------------------- -Boss III

to use your amp, you need convert your head unit to line level and not amplified. Which is the same as keeping your factory headunit, or use the rcas.
Is there a specific reason you want to change the HU. Maybe it will help clear things up and give you definite answers. dont, plug your HU directly to the amp, this will fry either or, you need a special adaptor or use the rca outputs from head unit. I wanted MP3 but the OEM dont fit our cars, so i got a OEM indash 6 disc changer running two amps. with two 10 inch subs. anything is possible. -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... honestly? IMO ditch the factory amp.
You want good sound? go thru your aftermarket head-unit, as it's (depending on what you AMHU you have) better. You want Competition level sound? AMHU & Your own amp. Our factory amps are like 60-65W per chanel. Big freaking deal. Your AMHU puts out a minimum of 50W. You want competition level? your going to want 150W+ But it depends on what you are trying to achinve -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! the reason i want an aftermarket headunit is because i like the versatility of the controls. i.e i like to be able to control my subwoofer volumes and also it has a highpass filter already integrated into it so my speakers dont emit bass. I have a pioneer PEH-5900 i believe. (at a steal too, 80 bucks for NEW) and dual T1 fosgate subs... i cant exactly afford an aftermarket amp atm, or i would be going that way. So is it ok to power the 6 speakers through my HU though? even tho it isnt 6 channel?

i believe its 50 x 4 channel max and 22 x 4 rms. also, another reason why i'd want the amhu is because i can hook up aux in... which i use constantly. if worse comes to worse i'll ditch the aux in, tap the rears and wire the remote wire for the cigarette lighter and put a switch on it so i can turn it off and on i guess. =/
