I really like the idea of the pictures but try and find shots that people wouldn't expect. the idea of photography is to find an interesting perspective and to see life in a different way.

The first thing I thought about this was: very accurate. You're right. Then I see the shots you posted and my thought was: WTF? Advice to take shots people don't expect and use your own perspective and then post shots like the ring & the cars that aren't original. I'm not saying it was bad advice; saying maybe you should partake.

5th shot down... what's going on here?

Pretty girl, maybe that's you? IDK but the window/shadow would be better if her face was in the light also. It's a good idea though.

The picture of the girl is for a lingerie boutique so the focus isn't supposed to be on her.. The fifth picture were pictures of an old barn that I wanted her to take for some decoration in my house (she being my gf, I think she stated that above). The viper pictures were a surprise to me, and I understand your point on the 'originality' aspect but at the same time not everything needs to be original. I mean how do you seriously shoot a car 'originally'? I'm sure there isn't another way to shoot a car that hasn't already been shot. Your input is appreciated tho.

I was hesitant to critique because I had a feeling someone would take it too personally, which wasn't intended.

Background information on some shots like the lingerie being the focal point - that's important info.

As for the cars - it's exactly that. How would you shoot a car originally? Good question and hopefully some people will post answers to that (in the form of photos) because it's difficult to do something original.

I really appreciate that. I didn't think you meant for it to come across kind of like it sounded. But that is what sucks about writing or typing is you can't get the exact inflection of the persons voice or anything, you have to interprate it yourself and that's where things normally get bad ha. Once again tho, thanks!

( Jess talking) okay, the idea of me posting these pictures is to show you that you don't just shoot a car straight on. you find ways to make the picture interesting and looking at it in a perspective that wouldn't normally be looked at. not necessarily original, just different. i was not bashing on your pictures and frankly, you are the one who over reacted about my comment on your pictures. Thanks for the advice though. And the idea of picture number five is to be focused on the lingerie not on her face and she didn't want her face in it because she is the owner. I never said "original" i said different. Thanks for the advice though! smile.gif

... I didn't overreact. The fifth one is the wood & trees, not lingerie.

Anyone wouldn't happen to be looking for a Sigma 10-20mm Canon mount lens? Or an XTi?

sob story time...

so last night i was shooting a group of people, xsi tripod mounted with my 18-270. i'm mounted on a platform 6 feet off the ground, which put the camera another 5 feet above that. when i placed the camera on the tripod "clip", i tested to see if the camera would wiggle free, and it wouldn't. i go to get my flash out of my bag, next thing i know my camera is falling 5 feet to the platform, then bounced down to the pavement!!!

everything stayed together, lens looked fine (filter had a skrape on the bezel and the hood had a few small cracks in it, no big), and the camera had been slightly adjusted, and by that i mean ever so slight. as you point the camera away from your face, it landed on the top-left corner, luckily i made a strap out of parachute cord (or 550 cord as we call it), which cushioned the landing a bit. so i fire it up, auto focus-check, depth-of-field - check, ok, going for shutter... err 99, canon's glorious catch-all "Unknown Error" error code. no matter what i did, taking off the lens, cleaning the contacts, reinstalling the battery and mem card, nothing. it got sent off to canon today.

the lens had been giving me an "err 01" code, saying bad connection between lens and body, so i was planning on taking it back today. i told them about the error i'd been getting for a couple days, then about it falling last night, and they were happy to replace it. gotta love those Japanese peeps and loving honesty!

after all this, i have a brand new lens and nothing to shoot it with, off to the camera store. long story short, i had a choice between an EOS Kiss Rebel, same thing as an XT, or a 10D Digital. XT was $139, mint condition, but all plasticky and grey (camera's are meant to be black and stealthy, i just hate grey ones, they look cheap), and the 10D with it's magnesium body was all beat to crap, scratches and dings all over, but shoots great. sample pic with no PP besides shrinkage. obviously i went with the 10D.

That's a horror story. I always hate walking away from my camera on a tripod, and even with it on I have the strap around me.

Edit: I AM selling the XTI again... PM for details.

i kind of am. not a sigma though. if the price is right i could get it from you. im not sure how the quality is as compared to the canon. i know sigma has great lenses but some of them dont have that nice canon build and glass quality

$425 shipped/paypaled neg. is what I'm asking for. The quality is just as great as the Canon. I do understand with going with the Canon though.

No no no. No way I could afford that.

I was originally going to get a new 50D...but then with comparisons to the 5D, the 5D was still edging it out. Add in the full-frame and I was sold.
