Here's a few from a shoot I did for a friends hair & makeup business startup type deal... constructive criticism is welcome.
They were taken in Raw and some tweaking was done but nothing after they were Raw processed. This post has been edited by Supersprynt: Jan 19, 2009 - 4:42 PM -------------------- |

I am no portrait expert by any stretch, I like them all, the first is my favorite but the window in the
background seems a little hot and somewhat distracting. The others have some faint shadowing on the walls, unavoidable unless you have a studio type light setup. The subjects are all lit very well the color and contrast is very good. You should post them on potn there are a lot more serious photogs there that can give you better and more informative cc than you will get here. Besides you are one of the best if not the best photographer here so... Were these with your 17-40? I decided to go that route myself the 16-35 was my first choice but double the price for 2.8. For the types of shots I will use it for, landscape and car shots I need the depth anyway so it seems like a wise choice over the 2.8. My Tax return isn't going to be what I had hoped but I can afford the 17-40 the 2x extender, and my night football game lens. 70-200 2.8 L IS the 17-40 is also 77mm so I don't have a bunch of different filter sizes. -------------------- JDM guy made me do it.

I actually started out with a flash, bouncing off the ceiling, but there was a lot of fluorescent lighting (yuck) and windows so just took it off and didn't need it. There were windows everywhere, a lot of the shots I have there is a incandescent light behind he subject, or a window or a mirror - it was difficult to shoot at that location. It was definitely difficult to get an accurate reading on the camera. Decided to use center-heavy with the light meter.
That little girl must have had a sugar sandwich so she was bouncing all over the place - so when she sat down for 10 seconds I shot what I could as quickly as I could. I agree the window is too bright. It was a learning experience, my first time shooting portraits so if not good photos I come away with at least it's experience. Oh and no these were all taken with a 50mm 1.8. It's a very sharp lens and chose it for that reason. This post has been edited by Supersprynt: Jan 20, 2009 - 12:20 AM -------------------- |

So i had a pretty cool day today... had a speaker for my transition classes going on and on about the reserves, blah blah blah, then he says he's ready to go back to the states to hit up photography school (the guy's well over 50). so i blurt out, "i need to see you after class!", with my xsi sitting on my table with a 300mm FD lens on it. after class i'm talking to him, and he does photography all over the island, then takes me over to his SUV and lifts the back. he has L lenses from 16-35mm to the 600/4, covering all ranges (i remember that 16-35, 24-105, 50, a really long zoom, don't remember, 200 1.8 and more that i don't remember), along with an MP-E 65, Canon twin light macro flash, and more stuff i can't remember. Oh, and another pretty expensive film camera, starts with an M, not minolta, don't remember the brand. oh, he has a 1DsIII and a 1D classic. he said he has about $100k of camera stuff, and said he paid $13k just for the 600/4. that thing is ginormous! Best part is, HE LET ME TRY ANYTHING I WANTED! That 600 was sick!, then he brought out the 2x canon tube, and WOW, flip the IS on, tripod of course. Pics below.
second two were shot when the lens was rotated, we thought it was stuck, until we took it off and it rotated freely, didn't feel like reshooting. 16/11 (with my celi on the right, the tower you're looking for is above the red nissan cube) 600/4 1200/8 (600 w/canon 2x attached) plus, the guy offered for me to go shoot with him anytime i want, he'll teach me modeling shoots, and he said he can shoot my wife for free, and he'll teach me then too! (no pun, i love my wife ) This post has been edited by stetsonaw: Jan 27, 2009 - 7:47 AM -------------------- ~Andy
