maaan. i need to start taking pictures again. i havent touched my camera in almost a month frown.gif frown.gif frown.gif

I hear ya, this winter weather sucks the life out of me. Plus I absolutely hate the total lack of color. It's just white & grey up here.

I'm supposed to shoot a fashion show this weekend but not sure what is in store for me location wise. Flash isn't popular with fashion photography and I'm not entirely happy with my 24-105 lens for this type of thing.

My next lens will be the 70-200 2.8, the f4 just isn't fast enough If I'm not getting IS.

i cant see how you would not be able to use a flash. it seems almost necessary, in such a horrible lighting situation. (which i assume most of them are) but make sure you post those up!! smile.gif

i finally took some pictures last night with my composer. i looked out the window around 1:30 and it was extremely foggy out so i took a few shots. it was surprisingly warm outside.

and same with me. i am saving for the 2.8 non-IS. i see no point in spending the extra money for it. i could use that money for an extender and a monopod

With a fashion show there should be excellent lighting, but this is hardly a professional setup so I will bring it hoping not to have to use it. I may resort just to using the 50mm 1.8 which I like but I will also have my 24-105 f4 just in case. But at 105 it's a 5.6 and that's going to cause me to use higher ISO which causes more noise and slower shutter and then it's blurry and wow rant.

I was looking into a monopod as well, but with my tight monetary situation I can just use a tripod w/o spreading the legs. I figure if I were to get the 200 f4 I'd want IS, but the 2.8 will be fast enough to go w/o IS, IMO. Either way, I don't, and won't have an extra $1,000 lying around to purchase one.

And here's a few that aren't new photos but I edited for my *soon to be* condo. I plan on putting them in 3 separate frames one beside the other like a broken panorama. The one on the very left looks a lot darker than it is in real life - however it is darker. Unfortunately there's not much I can do with it to make it match the other 2 a bit more. It bothers me but I have them printed and think it'll be ok.

yeah i agree. the IS is not necessary at all and is a waste of an extra 600. i will be shooting for urban racer so i need a longer lens, my 70-300 just wont cut it.

i think my fav out of the 3 you posted has to be the last. the second seems slightly crooked

oh you can see the curvature of the earth in the third as well haha

I think that crookedness might be an optical illusion. If you look uptown you can see the tops of the buildings are parallel to the photo's edge.

I'm sorry; what?

What ever happened to "point and click"?? laugh.gif

You guys definately know your stuff when it comes to cameras; and it obviously shows in the work you've posted so far. bowdown.gif
Did any of you take classes or are you self taught?

I took a B&W course when I was 19/20 but much of the focus was dark room printing (yuck) and subject matter and stuff like that. Hardly any of the technicals like F-stop, shutter speeds, film speed, DOF and what not. I started shooting with a 35mm when I was around 13 and have always been told I have an "eye" for it.

Oh and those NYC shots were taken with a point & click wink.gif

Those are all really nice Erik. smile.gif

I am going to have to disagree of course on the subject of IS(image stabilization). I absolutly hated it
when I first started using it, but now it is a must. I am still at f4. with the 1.4 converter on my 70-200 and almost 300mm.
When hand holding my 28-135 and focusing on small subjects or far away objects the difference is night and day.
It make a fast lens seem even faster I guess is what I am saying. It does seem like the price difference is exagerated
especialy on the 70-200 2.8, I am not sure why, other than the construction of that particular model may be more difficult
to manufacture. I agree it seems way over priced.

I have a manfrotto 679b monopod with the 234rc2 tilt head and love it. It was only about $85.00 on e-bay.

I have never taken a class, and it shows. I would like to, mostly to learn about lighting and portrait stuff.
I also need a lot of help in post processing. I have been learning a lot from POTN canon forums.

The roommate was at a meeting. So 1,000 yards of yarn was purchased and strung throughout his room. Tied to everything he has sitting around and the scissors were hung just about 6 inches out of reach. The only way to keep from knocking everything he owns on the floor was to crawl underneath the mess, around his bed, then climb on his bed, follow the wall and he could reach the scissors. We hid everything in the house that he could use to cut the yarn so he had to climb through our little Legends of the Hidden Temple mess.

Before this we previously filled his bedroom with balloons. From floor to ceiling. Had to wait a few months for him to stop locking his door again before this little number could be pulled.

Would anybody on here be interested in my 24-105 f4-5.6? It was my 2nd lens but I don't ever use it and could use the space in my bag. It's a nice walk around lens. Not expensive either.

I am all lensed out for a while.

Trying to figure out the 16-35L. It is so different from anything else I own. I can't wait to really test it
with some warm weather and good scenery. I just couldn't find the right spot for this one.
