Hi!
Now i've myself a 6th gen Celica, and i love it! its a piece of artwork indeed:)
So now its time to make it even a little better, and one of the things i want to do, is to turbocharge it.
Im kind of new in the world of car engines, turbos and such. But ive done my homework and learned a lot about it, but its still some things thats a little fuzzy to me.
There is already a lot of great posts about turbocharging here, but what i want to do, is to make a thorough description of the prosess, gathering information and pictures from all the other posts. So that when someone else like me wants to learn the ways of charging, he (or she) can find it all in one post. step by step describing every little detail, that may for some is "too easy to mention" but for others maybe a hole in the logic.

I think i'll just start with some questions, and then start writing the walkthrough later on.

first of all, i've understood that the fuel pump HAS or Should be replaced by a stronger one, when installing a turbo. i've seen that some use the "walbro pump" and some use the "supra's stock pump. There's some things thats a little fuzzy to me about this installation, something with the fuel pump "regulator"? im quite blank here, so please help me out.

1.Q: When installing a new fuel pump, what other changes than replacing the "pump unit" has to be made, and how?

Then there is the oil hoses, and placement of these. I know that you have do drill a hole for the "oil return hose" in the "bottom pan" of the engine. But:

2.Q: where exactly does the "oil feed line" go? how to install it? what items are necessary?

Same goes for the cooling system, but here the whole thing is a little fuzzy.

3.Q: how to install the cooling system for the turbo? which items are necessary?
Then there's a lot of people who wants to turbocharge their engine without blowing up either their wallet or their engine. so:

4.Q: Whats the bare minimum required items for installing a turbo, when focusing on reliability and cost?

So, i hope, and believe that i will get some very good answers here, i know a lot of you guys got plenty with skills and know-how on the subject, biggrin.gif and i know this will help out the people with less know-how, and an equal turbo-desire (like me:)). pictures would also be really great!

thanks in advance guys! lets make a great thread!:)

ok 90% of your questions can be answered here

http://www.6gc.net/howto/128

and here are a few quick answere

1.Q: When installing a new fuel pump, what other changes than replacing the "pump unit" has to be made, and how?

A: go buy a Chilton book for the 94-99 toyota celica and it has it in there.... but changing the pump is straight forward process

2.Q: where exactly does the "oil feed line" go? how to install it? what items are necessary?

A: you "T" into your block where your sensor was then run a braided line to the top of your turbo

3.Q: how to install the cooling system for the turbo? which items are necessary?

A: are you talking about the intercooler piping or turbos that use a coolant line to keep cool?

IPB Image

4.Q: Whats the bare minimum required items for installing a turbo, when focusing on reliability and cost?

A: the basic componets see pic below for an idea (add better map sensor like 3 bar)

2A: thanks:)

3A: I meant the coolant line part. so its just some turbos that has this function?

4A: could you describe the parts with names? maybe give some examples, links pics? This post is supposed to be a helping hand to those who for example dont know what a map sensor is:)

i've read the post you linked to. maybe others find the answers to my questions in that post, but i dont, thats why i ask:)

Isn't all the information right here?

http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=29705

What am I missing? There are a ton of different types of Celicas and options for turbocharging. Different threads in that list will apply to different people...

plug and play pretty much

2A: thanks:)

3A: I meant the coolant line part. so its just some turbos that has this function?

correct like i only had an oil only turbo some other turbos use oil and coolant

4A: could you describe the parts with names? maybe give some examples, links pics? This post is supposed to be a helping hand to those who for example dont know what a map sensor is:)

click on this link ===> http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=29705

parts in there are
1. turbo garrett T3 with internal wastegate ( for trim go 60 or super 60)
2. jgstool turbo manifold
3. oil drain line and oil braided feed line with brass T
4. taped oil pan (for the return line)
5.now for fuel i would do this bigger injectors with a piggy back and 3 bar map senosr
6. plugs in the correct heat range
7. intercooler and piping
8. blow off valve

i've read the post you linked to. maybe others find the answers to my questions in that post, but i dont, thats why i ask:)

thanks for your help:)
what im trying to do here, is to gather so much information in one post, that even a newbie could install a turbo on a celica, using only this post for info.
Ok, injectors and map sensor! here im kind of blank. i understand that the injectors is thingies that inject the fuel to the cylinders. but do one have to upgrade these? or is it just for the extra power?

And what is a map sensor? a sensor that the injection system uses? is this necessary, or just a power-adding add-on?

Of course, there are a lot of different setups here. but ive made quite clear what kind of setup i want to focus on. A reliable and cost-effective setup. using only the necessary parts while keeping the reliability and lifetime of the engine as much as possible. simply a beginners setup:)

The map sensor is so ur computer can read boost... The injectors are for reliability so ur car will get enough fuel . Those 2 things you dont wanna leave out of any turbo kit.

Yes you need to use that gas and only that unless ur using race gas.....Your car will not run right if you use reg you need 93

In NJ you dont pump ur own gas so I told the guy 93 and of course he puts reg so just from the station to my house my car felt funny i got home and had to pump the gas out and refill..the car was happy and driving fine...the reg isnt good for a turbo car there is not enough octane.

As for your other questions I cant say im not sure bc I dont really no what hp #'s turbo sts are running...you wont need a new computer but you will need a piggy back like the emange or something..you have to have a way to tune the car. For the parts hurley98 (stef) has a list going of what see has bought or is buying here pg 8: http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...2444&st=140

She did a complete rebuild so all those parts could be skipped unless u were rebuilding.

Ok, thanks!:)
so how do you install the map sensor? pic?smile.gif
the injectors are just simply out with the old, and replace it with the new?
