Can someone direct me to a comprehensive listing, database, etc. that gives a life expectancy of the major components of the 6G? Specifically, I want to know (assuming reasonable use) how long the clutch should last, how long the struts should last, the belts, the brake discs, the exhaust system and any other items that may need replacement during the long life of the Celica, but may not be a regular maintenance item. Know where I can find that? Thanks.

I don't think the Celica would be too different from any other car. Regular maintenance and tune-ups are required on any vehicle and the recommended intervals are probably a good approximation. That's just my opinion though, and I admit I don't know that much about cars.

For instance, there are certain vehicles that are known to have weak clutches. Theirs obviously will not last as long. Others are known for having few problems in general, and they are likely to fall well above the statistical norm of all vehicles in most categories. Really, when it breaks, I'll fix it, and I won't if it's not. I'm just trying to project cost so that I can prioritize what I'm going to invest in on my Celica. That's a good idea to get a rough idea of the life expectancy of some components, however so much of that is going to be HIGHLY subjective and entirely contingent on your driving style, typical driving conditions i.e. mostly short trips or mostly highway trips or split between the two... and so on. As for the expectancy being similar to that of other cars, I disagree - Toyotas are known for reliability, which would include an increased life span of major components compared to comparable cars of similar age. Ya don't see many 14 year old Ford Taurus's out there, nor do you see a heck of a lot of 14 year old Hyundai's.
There's a LOT of cars on here that are high mileage - mine for example is just about to turn over 228k. The previous owner street raced it though, dumbass kid racing an ST. Duh. Burned out the clutch and threw a rod in the motor at about 200k. Transmission is still original and going strong. I replaced the starter when I bought the car at 217k. Water pump has never been replaced to the best of my knowledge, I'm assuming though that the one I have came with the engine replacement - about 95k on it now. Going strong. Best way to gauge it is to ask around for other people's experience. And since you're not the original owner of the car, it's really anyone's guess. -------------------- |

Any additional advice or links will be appreciated. Yeah, I know what you mean, but you were also asking about general stuff like brake pads, belts, clutch... Brakes depend on driving style, belts you change when a tune up is due usually, and the clutch on most cars lasts about 180k - 200k miles. You are right though, there are other things that depend on the quality of the car and manufacturing process. The clutch on the Celica I recently sold needed to be changed at 185k miles. The timing belt was changed at 80-90k mile intervals. The struts were still alright when I replaced them at 123k miles on the new Celica. It should be a helpful list if other people contribute. |

my struts replaced at 150k
my clutch at 150 k axles about 95 k from previous owner ac clutch at 95 K radiators tend to explode at 150 - 175 IDK (crssing my fingers) -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... I hardly log in anymore, last login Today Sept 6 2019, and I was forced just to clarify a post. LOL

238k currently. Well, 237,8xx
shocks/struts were SHOT upon purchase of car @217k, need replacing clutch replaced @ 200k brakes/drums/rotors last replaced unknown, sound and feel like ****, will replace soon radiator looks original & is fine starter replaced @217k everything else looks pretty spiffy, knock on wood! -------------------- |
