Axle Help, Passenger Axle *Completed* Options

Hey all, I have a question the axle I bought didn't come with the items I circled is it suppose to come with it or do I have to order the parts from toyota ?? The one circled in green is some kind of mount for the axle not sure whats it called and the red one thats circled is some kind of metal seal for the axle, after putting in my new right axle which didn't come with those didn't know if I needed that metal axle seal connected everything put in new tranny fluid started the car then all my tranny fluid started spilling from that area that is circled red. Did I get the wrong axle ?? Oh and I tried to reuse those parts from the old axle bad idea doesn't work.

the carrier axle mount for the passenger side is never included when purchasing a new axle. you have to remove the carrier mount from the old axle by removing the snap ring inside (you'l need either a large snap ring pliers or a good set of pck hooks and a small flat screwdriver). then hammer out the outer half of the carrier mount. then use a bearing press to remove the inner half of the carrier mount from the bearing.

it can be tricky to tell if your axle is properly installed without the carrier mount correctly aligned to the block and bolted. one way i found is to insert the axle into the tranny and if you're able to bolt the carrier mount to the block, then the axle is properly inserted. the reason why it was leaking was probably because you had inserted the axle in the tranny improperly. so first finish swapping the carrier mount from the old to the new, install the new axle and bolt the carrier mount (to ensure that it's actually nserted correctly), then see if it still leaks.

Can I just get a new carrier axle mount or is it better to use the old one ?? And what about the little metal seal at the end circled in red thats where it was leaking from do I need that ??

it's better to use the old one. if you don't have a bearing press, you can use a hammer. this isn't the best or easiest way but it works. it that doesn't work, just get a shop to remove it and install it on the new one. it's like a 5-10 min job.

i'm not entirely sure whether you absolutely need the metal axle seal, but it's best to just leave it on there.

Found out what the metal axle seal was its the axle dust cover and yeah you need that or else the tranny fluid will spill everywhere and its not a reusable part too I just decided to order both parts new tried hammering the axle mount out didn't do any good. Do you need to have the bracket/axle mount pressed on or can I just pull it down and it'll just pop right in ?? The weird thing is I've done alot of searching on this problem and it seems I'm the only person (and maybe you azian) that had this problem everybody else said the just popped in the new axle it was just plug and play for them.

probably because most of them got used axles which had the carrier axle mount already installed.
the mount needs to be pressed on. it's a very tight fit and doesn't just slip right in.

That bearing [not the whole housing, just the bearing] is supposed to come on the remanned axle, and so is the dust shield.

You got a half assed part [cheap aftermarket] and now your paying for it.

The dust shield doesn't seal the fluid in at all, that's the job of the axle seal in the trans. You probably damaged it when you pulled the old axle or installed the new one.

The dust shield does exactly what it's name says, it shields the axle seal from dust and debris.

The bearing is on the axle I was talking about the bearing bracket and I got the axle from oreillys what everyone here and celicatech recommended. The axle seal is just fine I got a new one just in case anyway just waiting on my parts from toyota.

Edit: Is is just me or did some of your local dealers raise their prices ?? The bracket at my local dealer was $100 just for the bracket way past the MSRP I got mines half the price at 1sttoyotaparts ?? Even with 1 day shipping it was cheaper.

That dust seal [or lack therof] won't cause a leak, period.
If you have ATF coming from that area, either the seal is bad, the axle is bad [scratched], or it's not fully installed.

1sttoyota is cheaper than most dealers, they don't charge as much.
That's to get business they wouldn't normally get, if you walked in they probably would charge full [or close to] retail.
They also make some $$ on shipping.

Well just got back from toyota they can't get my bearing bracket pressed out for me they said their press is to small. Went to some local shops and they said the same thing called another toyota dealership and they said the only way was to get it rebuild if thats the only way why do they make reman axles ?? Just ordered a new boot I'm not gonna get it rebuild, this car gives me too much headaches...car will probably go on autotrader when I get this fixed.

omg.. that's retarded. how could they even replace axles on a car if they can't even swap the bearing carriers? lol.. seriously, if you were local i'd do it for free, only takes a few mins.. maybe they charge for the whole axle with the new bearing carrier in place?
if you wanted a new boot kit, i have one that's unused and OEM. i was gonna replace mine but instead i replaced the entire axle.

Yeah thats what I was going for too, I'm sure it'll be better in the long run thats why I went and got a new axle I didn't think it'll be this much trouble just to transfer the bearing carrier. I gave in and brought it to a shop that rebuilds axles the guy said he can't guarantee anything but he'll see what he can do, I hope I have better luck now.

**CONCLUSION**

Well after 2 weeks down I finally got my car on the road again and it feels great. Just got my passenger axle in today with the carrier bracket installed. The shop that does axles rebuild came through and swapped the carrier bracket to my new axle. Got everything installed just before it rained lol turns out if you don't have the carrier bracket on your new axle it will cause the axle to leak at the tranny like what you said azian, so make sure you transfer your old bracket or buy a new one my advice is to use the old one because they're build sturdy no need to buy a new carrier bracket if the old ones still good and save yourself some money. Overall the removal and install was really easy but it also depends on how incline you are about this stuff. The only real problem I had was the carrier bracket and the fact that the dealer got me the wrong items (waited 2 weeks for the wrong items). Also the 3 quarts of syncromesh that spilled to the floor when I though the carrier bracket was optional to install lol but turns out you need that or you will end up with the problem I had. So learn from my mistakes hopefully this will help someone out their. Big Thanks to Azian without him my car would be down for a couple more weeks lol and alltracman for chiming in with his advice. You guys ROCK !!!
