what would you do??, new wheel and tire pricing. Options

So, im looking into a new car...not an RSX any more, but im not gonna say what. Any ways, the car has brand new tires on it, and only 1 set of wheels. The thing is, the new tires are winters. So, if i do buy the car, i need to get new tires. Any ways, the factory wheels take a 205/50R16. So for the new wheels, im thinkin about gettin a set of Rotas. But heres the delima. I wanted to go with a set of 17s...but if i go with 17s, i need new tires too...soo all in all...the rims are $880 taxes in...then the tires are $111 each. So im looking at $1381 w/o hardwear. Hardwear is another $140 for Rays enegerine hardwear. Any ways, heres the delima. I have almost brand new Toyo Proxie TPTs on my car right now. They are 205/50R16s... So now im thinkin about maybe going out and gettin the Rotas in 16, and then go with a cheap set of 205s from my work for the wheels on my celica right now.

So, my choises are either

A. Buy new 17" rotas and new tires that arent that great of a tire..

OR

B. Buy 16" rota's, take my new toyos off my car, and buy a cheap set of tires from my work to sell with the celica.

I donno what i should do.

EDIT: so i priced out 16s, and 16" tire from my work...it came to $1362 w/ tax for every thing. But i donno if i want bigger rims then stock or not.

But i do like the ride quality and comfort of 16's



I think i would go for the 16's as it's pretty important to have good quality rubber.

17" with 225 tires are pretty comfy. It might look a little thick though, but in my opinion 16" is just too small.

Hmmm, I have 17's and never wish I had 16's.

I'd get the 17" rims and drive on the winter ones until I could afford decent tires for them, but... i live in California so my idea of winter tires is probably quite a bit different than what you have. In my opinion 17's would feel just as good as the 16's would if you get the right tires.

Anyway, i think you should go with 16s and get the toyos off ur celica because when u sell ur celica, u won't get that profit back so might as well get your dollar's worth and use those tires you found for Sarah's car..if they fit and go from there.

I don't know what kind of car it is, so I don't know if it'll look better with 16's or 17's, but I suppose it depends on what you're looking for.

I was going to get 16X8 Rota slipstreams for my wagon and put a meaty tire on it, but the wheel wells are large enough for me to put 17X8 and put a 225/45R-17 tire on, which is meaty enough!

In regard to your tires on the Celica, I'd pull them and put on a set of cheapos that you can get, then sell the good tires and put that towards your wheel fund.

Is your Celica in good condition otherwise? You won't make your money back on the tires, but having newer and good quality tires on it could be a very strong selling point to balance out weaker points your car might have.

On the other hand, if the Celica is in good shape, I think you should keep the good tires. I did this once: I had just bought a REALLY nice set of Toyos for my '87 Pathfinder, but then a very nice and WAY below KBB 4Runner came up for sale, and I HAD to have it. The owner totally let me take the car before I'd finished paying him for it and have the tires swapped out. That way I got the lovely 4Runner AND got to keep my very expensive tires. I sold the Pathfinder with crappy tires on it, but the buyer didn't care. Win win!

the car is in goodshape otherwise. Like i just replaced brake lines, new front end parts, new plugs wires, etc. I cleaned up any rust that was showing today. It will look like a million bucks when i sell it.
