What does radar detectors really do? I want to know..do they really tell you when cops are around?? Cuase i'm tired of cops stopping me!! LoL ok give me input guys!

they tell you when cops are radaring you..that's all..if they don't have their radar on...it wont pick them up. cops use K,Ka,VG2 and Laser. if you get a radar decetor, go to best buy and get the Cobra! it works great if the cops have the radar on!

ok, well it depends on the kind of radar that the cops are using. A radar detector will pick up a cop if he is shooting people in fron of you, but once he has you, your nailed. The best radar detector out there is the valentine one. Check out www.valentineone.com for more info.

VG2 is a type that can actually detect, the detector. Most r/d's are VG2 invisible now, Theres also X band, but its not widely used ne more. The Cobra i have sucks, Valentine is excellent and I believe Whistler? is too.

I have a 50 dollar Whistler(I think) works great for me. I don't really find a difference in any other ones, then again I've never used a "ritzy" one.

my cobra is 360 deg. and it works just fine..but hey if ya wanna spend 400 on a radar dector..then go for it...

I have a cheap 70$ cobra I got on sale for around 49, works like a dream, I hid it near the middle vents and made a switch too it... they are illigal in my state.... but they are great things you hear Beep....... beep...... beep... beep.. beep. beep beep....beep And you feel your heart stoppin and you slam on dat break

Thats the worst feeling ever is hearing the loud beeping you know is a cop. Your heart does stop. I was doing 40 behind this car and was gonna pass in the right and I looked over and it was a county cop. I about died and suddenly begin doing the 30 that was intended. The cop was going 40 too, she might of admired me for actually doing that... lol.

well...i guess it's all up to the amount of money you want to spend...don't get me wrong...the valentine one probably has a lot more features and stuff...but $400 is too much for a little radar dectector. so it's all in the amount of money you want to spend...and i'll leave it at that

The very 1st day I had my Valentine1, I installed it and went somewhere, got on the highway, hadnt gone 3 miles and it went off, pointing ahead, half a mile up there was a cop with someone pulled over on the exit ramp. after i passed him, I sped back up, expected the unit to indicate he was beside me, then behind me, IT DIDNT, the arrow still pointed ahead, so as I'm cussing this POS, I look up and there is a 2nd cop in the median about 3/4 of a mile past the other one. Would have got me for sure,,,this incident made a believer out of me. I cant be without my V1 anymore. It helped pay for itself the 1st day. (and many times since)

Damn the Valentine does what its worth but damn its $400??? Whistler is that any good? It only detects a cop with his shooting speed gun thing? Haha but the valentine sounds so good since it can dectect a cop regardless!! Cops dont give me problems which is good but I dont want to take my chances lol

Yea, I don't even worry about cops anymore because I know I'm not speeding. If your obeying the law, then cops are no threat to you. I always try to obey the laws of the land scripted in the bible.

undefined [COLOR=red] I don't speed at all unless someone pisses me off on the freeway....The reasons why cops been stopping me lately it's because of how my car looks..my car is all show right now nothing is even modified underneath the hood for performance yet.. i haven't even installed my intake yet. they stop me (so they say) b/c my exhaust is too loud or my windows are too tinted..then they go check under my hood and they notice it's all stock. they cops that have stopped me though are really cool. they let me go without a warning or a ticket. which is cool. i just want to avoid going through an intersection with a cop that would hear my exhaust go *vroom* so i can control the sound..my exhaust can't help itself sometimes lol...I might not be lucky anymore and get an a$$ of a cop.
