I have searched in the forums to see who has done a beams swap. as there is not much info on this swap

Some people rate it 190 some even 210 hp. I am talking about the red top vvti engine.

Im starting to get info on this. So if anybody can point me to the right post/people. thanks...

I checked dr tweaks website and hes done one, but not much info.

The best is to get a clip, yes but these are hard to come by, so i need to know what is needed..

I have a 94 GT-S (5S-FE). I had to use the BEAMS motor, my original flywheel and clutch my motor mounts. My original tranny also fit fine. As yet I have no Cat because the BEAMS has it on the end of the header under the drivers seat. I put an adapter pipe in instead. The BEAMS tach is also needed as the engine uses the new style ignition and the signals are different. your old tach will not work with the BEAMS. Wiring is not that bad if you have some previous electrical experience. Just take your time.

thanks man, im really going for this swap, the fact is i cant due to money issues.

so far i have recognized i need

engine
ECU
Cluster
Wiring

I can use my own tranny, my mounts.

What about the other little stuff, like ignitors, air intake, fuel pump.

I have researched sometimes the beams does not like a CAI due to the MAF having abnormal signals and running sluggish when the engine is cold.

I am a member of MR2.com since I have seen they are doing this more often. glad to know someone has already done it on a celi.

I am the NEXT FTW......

The beams tach is required? i thought that was on the 5gens. I thought the 6gen cluster will still work with the correct wiring, well 96 and up.

As far as I know you need either a BEAMS tach or a tach adapter box like this one: http://www.phoenixtuning.com/zenstore/inde...p;products_id=4

you would probably be better off finding one that still has the tranny attached. it should still just drop in. if you get one without a tranny it's possible that you could get an automatic ECU that wont work with the manual tranny. is the beams tranny a e153? i've head that it has an LSD

Can a celi be legally registered in Cali with a BEAMS engine?

no. the only swap that you Californians can legally do is if you have a 94-95 GT you can swap in an MR2 (smog legal) 3sgte. the reason being you can only swap a motor that is the same year or newer than your car and have it legal and in cali it has to be a smog legal (or whatever they call it) motor with california emissions regulations.
do people have swaps that aren't legal in cali? of course! they just know people who know people who "overlook" the illegal swap.

or you can live in another state like mine, and visit california year round.

ayways, yes i know about the ecu, now bout the tranny, would i need to modify my axles? I know a lot of people favor the 3sgte, but i just have fallen in love with the beams...

x2 on that! I'm from San Diego CA originally and now stationed in SC I love it no emission laws FTW!! I love the BEAMS engine a guy on ebay named keithtau (rpm garage) has a SSIII gauge cluster for sale white face, 9000rpm tach, but he wants like 250-300 shipped though.
