Well i just swapped my steering. I have the dilemma of the cruise control. I have read its a possibility of just joining some wires and give it a try, however bad cruise control can mean acceleration or inability to turn it off. so i decided to see about it.

My new matrix steering did not come with one, buying one is not a problem. However the 7th gen is a 2 wire module and the 6th gen has 3 wires.

as far as comands options on 6gc, i took it apart, very simple switch, consists of 3 resistors wired in a way to provide multiple resistance values for each option. Thats how it does it. By resistance, and the computer reads this.

The question is how to effectively use the 7th gen making sure you get all the functions.

I set my multimeter at 2k setting and here are readings...

1. Cruise On / Off (this is actually a zero resistance switch. ) this is the white and white/black together

The following are the red and white/black together

2. Cancel ( the resistance value on this is 0.419 )
3. Set/Coast ( the resistance value on this is 0.198 )
4. Res/Acc ( the resistance value on this is 0.068 )

here is the basic set up

However the 7th gen has 2 wires, and i need to get ahold of one to take it apart and study it and modifiy it..

Yes the Cruise on the wheel is better.

Until i get my hands on a 7th gen, it is unk what functions can be done or replicated safely. As both computer modules can be different. Ill keep posting...

got my hands on a triple spoke cruise and different values and just two wires.

The following are the red and white together

2. Cancel ( the resistance value on this is 1.542 )
3. Set/Coast ( the resistance value on this is 0.631)
4. Res/Acc ( the resistance value on this is 0.240 )

so this is different information, this was off a rav 4. now i dont think these same resistances will trigger the cruise computer. And if the resistances are the same in a 7th gen celica cruise.

pretty much both have resistors in series,

2. Cancel 3 resistors
3. Set/Coast 2 resistors
4. Res/Acc 1 resistor

my goal will be to swap resistors, tough job due to size, i have to make holes larger.

here are the pics of different layout.

another view

removed resistors, and had my old cruise resistors.

shaved the pockets

and soldered the resistors needed.

no i will make the wire splicing.

Ok so if you buy a 3 post wheel that doesn't have a cruise control module built in - you can't just swap out your existing cruise control module????

By this I mean, my GT-S already has cruise - would it work with my new 3 post wheel? Thanks for helping the newb... smile.gif

no dude, if you look at the size of the cruise modules, different hole pattern.

I had here a cruise from a rav. but a celica cruise might have same configuration of resistance. Batman simply spliced and used and it worked for him. The rav one i had did not work therefore i changed the resistors. 2 hour job.

The cruise control does not have to be on the steering wheel tough. any button with the right combination of resistors can do the job if you wire it right.... wink.gif

Ok so the wheel I bought didn't have a cruise control module on it - can I retrofit the module I currently have to the new 3 post wheel so I can keep my cruise?

Looking everything over again, I'll have to do as we discussed today and take the resistors out of my old stalk and solder them into the new one, or else put my old stalk in the new wheel. It'd be ugly but easy.

I'm going to take my old cruise stalk to Radioshack later this week and buy two of each resistor. I'll take care of the cruise stalk on this steering wheel next weekend then at some point later I'll take care of my 7gc wheel, but there's no rush on that one.
