I've been a member of this site for a little while now and I've been soaking up as much info as I can get. I asked around and found I needed to change my valve cover gasket so I while I had my valve cover off I decided to go ahead and paint it. So my engine went from
This: to This: in the past week! New header too! Sounds pretty good I like it!! I also went ahead and painted my calipers, I like them as well. I'm going with a black and blue theme if you haven't noticed. And then here is an upclose on the valve cover And that about rounds out my mods that I accomplished this past week! Do what I did, sand down those lines moving horizontal on the valve cover, this way you'll have chrome accents...or if you want, take a paint brush and paint those lines black since you said you wanted a black and blue theme.

Mm I like the black stripes idea! I may have to give that a shot! -------------------- |

Mm I like the black stripes idea! I may have to give that a shot! Make sure you use high-heat paint...they have high heat paint in gloss and flat black finishes just letting ya know And it also looks like you're in need of a new 16 VALVE sticker..i removed mine and when i debadged my trunk i took the toyota and celica badges and took double-sided tape and outlined them and put them on my valve cover. Here's me. This post has been edited by _mikeE: Jun 2, 2008 - 1:33 AM |

looks good. get some wrap on your header. also from the coloration on your radiator it looks like it's going to soon be time to replace. start saving for a koyo alum rad. i wish i had known my radiator was about to go out so i coulda been saving for a good one, not just a stock replacement.

Well this doesn't really have to do with pics but this morning I started up my car to come to work and it started really rough. It was idling really bad. . I revved my engine and let it sit and it seemed to even out then when I got to work and parked and sat for a second it sounded a little rough but not real bad. . Should I reset my ecu since I have added my header and stuff? I've read its supposed to change accordingly? Or do I have to have someone do that manually? Also, ever since I've had my car it has this high pitched whistle only when I accelerate tho. I think its in my exhaust but I couldn't find a hole or crack or where it could have rusted through. . Any other ideas? Its not the downpipe or the seal on the downpipe I just replaced the gasket and everything, no change. .

Sure it's not your PCV...did you replace ur pcv valve and hose after you removed your valve cover...ur pcv might be bad...and you used rtv silicone to seal up the 90 degree corners to seal those little spots when putting ur valve cover back on right?

Yes I did you rtv silicone, I didn't replace the pvc valve tho. . Or hose. . How important would that be for me to replace? -------------------- |

Well, your pcv valve is old and probably all gunky and crap so it'd be a wise idea to replace it, and when removing it off your valve cover you might've created some bit of a leak which would cause your idle to be at a higher rpm than normal until you tap your gas for it to move back down. Also this is noticeable when you're driving and you release your gas pedal but your car is still moving and then you feel that release of throttle like a second later or so.

I heard this radiator is good and does it's job, however when it comes to turning on warm air, i heard the heat coils don't heat up as good as the stock one and so it takes awhile for warm air...i wonder if this is true or not. |

Not quite the symptoms I'm having. . I didn't actually remove it, just masked it off, but it is loose, idk if its supposed to wiggle around or not? Idk? It definitely has play in it but yeah, and the whistle sounds like its coming from the exhaust but its hard to tell I guess cuz its pretty much impossible to detect where the whistle is coming from when I'm driving my car -------------------- |

Got some more accomplished on my ride today! Installed some 5th Gen Mirrors:
And also got my header wrapped: So this is my engine to date: I've decided that, I'm not sure when but, I'm going to boost my 5sfe. Hope to get quite a bit of help from other people who have done the same! But for now I'm going to have to put my spending on my car to the side, I leave for Italy in 6 days!!! Can't wait!!! First time out of the country! -------------------- |

I finally got my exhaust done, 2.5in from the flex pipe back, with a Borla XR-1 muffler. The whole setup sounds wonderful! Now I have the ebay header for my GT but I haven't encountered any sort of aftermarket flexpipe for that header or for the GT for that matter, anyone have any idears on where to get one, so I can have a true header back 2.5in exhaust?
Since added I can definitely feel better throttle response idk bout hp I doubt I'll ever get my car dyno'd but who knows. I'll try to get a sound clip up tomorrow hopefully I can find the camera. . Unfortunately I won't be doing any mods for a while, I have the rest of my cruise to pay for and pay off my car, and I'll be going to school this fall, hopefully I can still be making enough to play with my baby tho. . My future plans in the order I wanna get them done are, tint, drop, wheels, and then either combat front or 404 I think. . I just can't make up my mind. . The 404 would be way less expensive and easier to do, but to me the combat once fitted correctly is just sexy on the celi! I guess it'll all come down to how much bank I'm making when I can get around to getting it done. After I get the exterior done, I'll work on the interior again subs, double din DVD player, reupholstered seats, dash kit, basically whatever I can do I'll do, short shifter. That's the general idea -------------------- |
