Does anyone know if the after market air intake is suppose to be better than the oem one? My oem air intake hose has a crack and I was wondering if I should replace it with an after market one or buy an oem one. The problem is the dealer is the only place I can get the oem and I haven't call them yet to see what the price might be. I called around the auto parts store and none have it. I haven't tried the yunk yard yet. I am trying to see if anyone has one for sale here. Also if I can't find one. I would like to know which after market one is good to get and how hard is it to install. Thanks

Get a cold air intake, adds a little horsepower, gives your engine a little better air, Sounds GREAT!, adds to the engine bay. You can get one off ebay for cheap too and they work wonderfully. I spent like 70 on mine I think and I went the expensive route. There is a how to on here, if you buy some kind of honda CAI you can mod it to work in your fender.

Junk yard for OEM. Got one for about $7. Being an ST, you can eBay and your engine will have the option of a cold air intake. I have seen them around $50.

Or since you're MAP based and the reading is taken from the end of the intake manifold you can duct tape your existing cracked one [use black if you want it to look right] since all it's gonna be doing is keeping dirt out of your engine. I know it sounds ghetto but doesn't sound like you care much about the idea of an aftermarket intake and would prefer the cheap route [but maybe I'm wrong]. Or you could get another member on here to build you one, or you could could build you're own at Autozone/O'reilley's/Pepboy's etc. using that Spectre stuff [perfectly good stuff]. Besides - if you take your time with the black duct tape and cover the whole stock plastic tube it will look pretty good [surely better than it does now] for damn near free.
just wanted you to know that a leak there won't cause the engine to run funny or anything - just don't want dirt in there.

I gave my brother my old SRI he drives a corolla same motor as yours his air sensor was not long enough to extend to the pre-drilled hole so he just had to drill a new hole into the SRI to hook up his sensor and after that just taped/cover up the old hole works just fine. wink.gif

ahhh... the good ol cold air intake thing..one question, so the cold air intake is supposed to suk cold air right? now theyu are hooked up in the engine bay were the engine creates heat right? so were does the cold air come from if everything surrounding it is hot? and then the pipe being routed under the fender away from the engine sounds like it would be better but then whatabout when u drive by a puddle there goes all that water and hydro lock your engine. i dont know guys let me know if my theory is right or wrong..im curious to know this before i do anything to my car

You might have had more luck if you had started a separate thread rather than attempting to hijack someone elses.

Yes please do that kind of wrong and I don't think you failed Emissons because of a cold intake issue. it would not cause hc and co to go up and produce noxs I run five gases at school everyday and everyone use cold airintake.

Oem intake suck because they are a cheap made the rubber air hose make it for the air to trave down the hose. IF you notice when you hit the trottle the hose bents and moves. Just put the intake in the right way and make sure the IAT is put in with the hose lots of people forget that.
