This is a mini how-to. This is such a simple mod it doesn't require a step by step pictorial in my opinion.
Tools & parts Crosshead screwdriver Razor file or rotary cutting tool (such as Dremel) Selection of files from course to extra fine Selection of sanding sticks from fine to buff and polish Small can of Chrome plastic car spray Electrical tape Masking tape Two hard plastic washers, 1.5mm thick with 4mm diameter hole (from model shop). The handles are chromed ABS plastic from a Toyota Avensis 97-03. Part numbers 69206-05020 and 69205-05020. Pick them up from a scrap yard. Process Unfortunately, the handles aren't identical - they just look identical when assembled. Remove the Celica door handle from your car following the door disassembly howto, making a note of which rod goes to the handle and which goes to the lock. Take a fine nail punch (pin punch) and a hammer and knock out the retaining pin from both the Celica part and the Avensis part. Take the Avensis handle and with an extra fine permanent or whiteboad marker, mark the profile of the Celica handle on it. Cover the outer surface of the handle with protective tape (electrical tape or several thicknesses of masking or cello tape). Carefully remove the excess plastic from the Avensis part to match the profile of the Celica part. Use increasingly fine files and then moddlers' sanding and polishing sticks to polish the cut surfaces. Clean and remove all dust debris. Mask off all the chromed surfaces of the Avensis part to leave only the cut surfaces exposed. Spray with chrome car spray. These surfaces can only be seen when the handle is held in its opened position, but it finishes off the mod. Once dry assemble the modified handle into the Celica handle housing with both washers between bottom of handle and the housing. Attach to the door rods, attach to door and reassemble door. Enjoy! -------------------- Davey

there are no avensis in the us I'm sure there are other Lexus/Toyota/Scion with chrome handles that you could modify in a similar way. Just do a reccy next time you are in the junk yard to see what they have that might work. -------------------- Davey
