Hi, haven't been on here a while, sorry! But I had a quiery and usually someone knowledgable on here posts useful info!!!
My car at the moment seems to have some wobbles at high speed! I'll describe the symptoms: At 60-70mph+ the car drifts slightly to the left, even if its against the natural camber of the road, and the steering wheel shakes, which is quite annoying! I've recently had new tyres fitted all around, newish suspension on the front, electronic tracking and wheel balancing before and after tyre fitting but it still occurs. The other symptom is under hard the braking the steering wheel shudders even more for a short while but lessens as the car slows down and at low speeds, particularly on roungh surfaces the steering wheel will often dive off at an angle!!!! I ahve however noticed that the rear strut rod is bent and i have a replacement on order, coming tommorrow and I'll see if this helps at all, although i doubt this is the only problem! I have a feeling it might just be the brakes, but would it shudder at speed when Im not braking? I have after market alloys but have the spigot rings so its not those, im 99.9% all the bolts are correctly tightened, I just hope its not a steering rack problem...Can anyone offer any advice? I've had that before too and when I replaced the rotors, the shaking disappeared. Or your rims might not be balanced or bent.

mmm! Well I was gunna replace the rotors soon anyways! The rims are balanced, only the other day i had it done, and they don't look bent and i haven't hit them hard or anything!!!

i would also suggest checking if you wheel bearings are going and if you trans-axles are good. i had this little disease, but all problems are different on each car. hope this helps

make sure your lug nuts are tightened.

Had the same problem when I let someone cut my rotors. Replace the rotors and brakes and it will stop wobbling when you brake.

Shaking/vibrating at high speeds (when not braking) can be caused by a number of things that are suspension related. Have your tie rods/end links checked, check all related bushings, check driveshaft, u-joints, and wheel balance.
Brakes shuddering is very likely caused by warped rotors. Be sure to check that your calipers are functioning correctly as well, and not sticking. Check rotors for signs of excessive heat (likely on one, not both) - you'll see purples and blues "burnished" into the metal. This is a sign of sticking calipers, putting the load on the other rotor, thus possibly warping it as well. -------------------- |

I have something similar happen to me as well, but I think mine are my aftermarket rims. When I drive with either my OEM rims or my winter rims on, I have no problems with shudder. I've had my rims balanced twice and I have those hub center rings and I still have a shudder at about 110 km/h +.

i just started getting the same "wobbles" from 60-70mph. i dont have the problem while braking though. i do occasionaly get the sudden jerk of the steering wheel when slowing but i've chocked that up to my new rim/tire combo grabbing the ruts in the road. Roads in Phoenix are lame like that they heat up get driven on and warped then cools back down and hardens. LAME. I just replaced my OEM 185/??/14's with 215/35/17 yokohamas on TC's. still getting used to it haha, love the grip through turns but still surprised when they grab to something when my old tires would just bump/jump over it. ...anyways after i put the ksports on and get an alignment i'm hoping it will eliminate the wobble. let us know what solves your case, I would be interested to hear, good luck!

Cheers hey i have the same problem....just got new tires on the back(245/40/zr17) and the ones on the front(215/40/r17) have recently been swapped out(past 4 months) I have had this problem for a while and its nerve racking...i know its something thats gone bad or is in the process of failing because i didn't have the problem when i first got the car...I find a lot of play in the steering sometimes....but other times there is absolutely no play...i get the shaking at 60-70...i've also found that my car seems to wander on the highway or when passing slower traffic:) its a little unnerving...there is a whole lot of body roll and it feels like the car isn't planted as firmly to the road as it once was....if you make any progress with your progress..please keep me informed...i just want my handling beast of a car back! -------------------- |

i had these problems but all i did to fix it was retighten it in each lug right and torque it at the recommended spec
then i had no problem going down 90 with no fear of shaking |

Ok - update!! I have replaced all my rotors and pads and added stainless steel braided brake lines! I have also adjusted my suspension to its softer setting!
The good news is that the wobbles have ceased under braking - yay!!! However I still get a slight bit of drifting and wobbles at 70-80mph! Although it's not as bad as it was it's still noticeable!!! Im going to get the car into a nearby garage to have a chat with my mechanic to see what he suggests and to have a look at the bearings and tie rods etc! Its got to be the only thing that is affecting it now because ive had all four new tyres done and wheel balance! The only thing it could need is another alignment, however I am reluctant to believe that this will solve the problem!!! -------------------- |

An alignment would help with the pulling but not with the wobbles, so that too would leave me to believe that it's a suspension related issue such as a bad control arm bushing or the likes thereof.

Ok, I might have resolved this......I checked all the bushings and tie ends, suspension, tightened all nuts and checked calipers again!
I then looked on the back of the wheel and where i had painted over all corrossion from the old discs it was bumpy and uneven, also some of the corrossion transferred to the new discs. So I got some iron wool and scrubbed the mating surfaces clean and flush....Once both surfaces were clean and smooth and put the wheels back on and torqued up the bolts....I also removed the ABS relay and fuse just in case it was an ABS issue. anyway, took it for a drive and the wobbles have drastically reduced! So I put the ABS relay and fuse back in and it drove exactly the same...very small wobbles!! Which means its not an ABS or suspension bushing problem!!! So in the next couple of days im going to take all the discs of again and clean all the mating surfaces so that it is a totally flush fit...I am alos going to bleed the lines again....Hopefully, I reckon this should resolve this little problem!!! Already its starting to drive much better -------------------- |
