hey, I was just wondering do you think if you serviced your car every 5000km (3000 miles) and everything was looked after perfectly but you drove your car hard everyday as in just revved to near redline but didn't do any clutch dropping or wheel spinning how long do you think the engine would last?

how often do you guys redline? have you guys had any problems from driving the car too hard too much? how many kms, miles have you got out of cars you've driven hard day in day out?

I know the car wouldn't last as long as a car that was driven with less revving, it is common sence but would it still generally last a long time.

mainly talking about celica engines but I mean in general, bit of a silly question just bored haha.

i would drive my car half and half but mostly more on the hard side...when im racing cough on the track cough i would shift right before redline...i also seafoam my engine and change the oil every 3k so that really helps...but i have about 151,000 miles on my car and its starting to burn oil pretty bad...the rings are proably shot but i also have another motor i am going to be droping in....it all depends on the driver...if you maintain your car, oil changes, tune ups every 3k etc you can beat it all you want...plus the fact that you cant blow up these motors anyway biggrin.gif

ahaha yeah they seem like very stable engines, I drive mine fairly hard but I only take it to 6000 on the od ocastion still do rev it hard though, also very good with oil changes.

my family had an old fiat and it had a newer engine in it but had about 450 000km on the diff and gearbox and I redlined that pretty much every time I drove it and thats from a fiat! haha cars which are supposed to be unreliable but that car didn't have any problems when we had it.

actually its better for a car to be driven the same way everytime, if your gonna run it hard then run it hard all the time. Family cars have more problems from what ive seen then single driver cars because its more then one driver with different driving styles.

Its never good to rag on your car. And in our cars you dont have to red line to get max power, after (i believe) 5400 your just waisting gas, you will have hit the end of your power band (dont quote me on the number, but its no higher then that)

This is a very tough one. No answer is right because abusing your engine will lead to problems old or new. I find that stock driven motors that hardly ever redline will last a lot longer but at the same time these motors that get an oil change at 7-8K miles don't live too long.

Using synthetic motor oil really helps out a lot even in an old engine. You can go to AutoZone and buy Synthetic oil specials there most of the times for under $25 with an oil filter. You don't have to buy RoyalPurple and an K&N oil filter for that old motor. Its not gonna really help.
