I just replaced my spark plug wires with new NGK High Performance wires (the 04T ones). I had a bit of difficulty getting the #4 wire on but everything seems to be in place and connected snugly. I now have a bit of a rough idle and some hesitation, particularly on the low end. Cruising is generally okay, and the high-rev acceleration seems to be alright as well. It's just at idle I have an occasional miss and then when I try to take off from standing it hesitates. I have re-checked the wires to make sure they are indeed connected properly. So now what? As I said in the topic description, I never had this happen before when changing wires, plugs, or even a rotor or distributor. Is this something that's particular with NGK's? Is there some type of adjustment I have to make with them? Any help will be appreciated. If things don't work out. I'm going back to my cheap-ass Advance generic wires and putting these up for sale. Thanks. kindasad.gif

I know it's a stretch, but it's such a stretch that it comes full-circle as being the likely culprit: check to make sure you put them on the dizzy in the correct order. Take them all off and put them all back in again. I'd put down money that you've got two mixed up.

Well, anticipating that problem, when I replaced the wires I did them one at a time so there would be no confusion about which one went where. As I said, I've done this before - and hopefully we learn from our mistakes. wink.gif That being said, it is often a good idea when stuck on a problem to go back to the beginning and start over. So once more I pulled each of the wires off individually (all the way off this time) and put them back on. I have no idea what the problem actually was, but on my ride in to work this morning she ran like a champ except for two slight shudders. So I'll keep an eye on things and presume that I just didn't get everything as tight as I had initially thought and that the re-install took care of the problem.

Oh, by the way Valo, I did indeed replace my plugs, but they are the NGK Iridiums that recommend not adjusting the gap. Good suggestion, though. Thanks.

well if you bought expensive spark plugs most dont need to be gapped unless they are cheap.if your doing a tune up you should change the distribuitor car and rotor if is the 2.2l engine check the coil as well f it has one.

i bought ngk spark plug wires before and i didnt like them if you take them out a lot they tent to brake well i bought nology spark plug wires and they are the best is worth paying 175.00 for them.

How very stereotypical of you. wink.gif

I'm not doing a full tune-up; just felt like upgrading (which I guess is a bit subjective). My distributor cap and rotor were replaced just over 20,000 miles ago. I'll take a look just the same, since I'm in a productive and constructive mood.
