Long story short, my friend is giving me his sound system, its a box with 2 15's and a 4 channel amp. I have an extra pair of 6x9's laying around my house and was wondering if I could hook up the 6x9's to the other 2 channels. Would this hurt anything? Would I fry the speakers?

depends on how much the amp can handle. it'll also depend on what type of subs you have. are they single or dual voice coilover? if they are single you should be fine you would just need to adjust the output settings on those particular channels so you will get the mid and high range out of them and not the low range. if they are dual they will take 2 channels each if you want the most out of them.
somebody correct me if i'm wrong. -------------------- |

Typically most 4 channel amps don't have a low pass filter needed to keep mids and highs out of subs. However given the chance that yours does, you could be ok; except for the fact that you have 15's that will probably want a lot more power than what your 4 channel can produce. I could go on and on if you'd like. Use the 4 channel for your highs and get a new amp for your subs.

If you're a sound enthusiast as myself and you like your music to sound clean, then I would use the 4-channel amp for you mids & heights and buy a monoblock amplifier to push your bass. But don't let me pressure you, do what you feel is best for you. All I'm trying to say is, is that your system would sound MUCH cleaner! |

ya, I want CLEAN music, to be honest I dont even want alot of bass, but since Im getting the system for free, why not? Since I dont want to crank the bass too much would a 2-way amp be better than a mono amp for what I want? I also dont want to spend alot of money ($300 per amp, ect.)

So the subs are mono-coil, yeah? What is the wattage on the AMP?
If the amp is low wattage, then you'd wanna bridge the amp to run 2 chanel at higher power for 15" subs. If the AMP has suficient power to do it's work (or you want a low bass setup) then i'd recommend (To save on Capitol) getting a cross-over, so that you could use 2/4 ch on subs, and the other 2 ch for full range 6x9's. My buddy has this one http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Boss-Audio-BX25-2-...1QQcmdZViewItem and it works pretty well for him. ![]() G/L This post has been edited by D-Man: Jul 7, 2008 - 9:16 AM -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! They'll fit even with a properly sized enclosure and 15"s don't necessarily require more wattage. I would take the 4 channel and bridge two to 1 of the 15"s only and use the other two channels for the 6x9's - most modern amps can do this and will include a decent filter [depends on the brand and amp obviously]. Get us the specs and we'll get you on the right track.
