Hello,on monday I bought my Celica,so I am new.But my question is,why would the car never ever go above 3k RPM?And so far pretty much the top speed I can achieve is around 70 MPH.Anyone have any ideas?the only mods I have done thus far is my short ram intake, and it did it before I installed it. Much thanks,SV

her a silly question is your overdrive on or off that would make a difference on rpms, also I would check the timing to make sure it right. I have 95 auto gt it goes way above 3000 rpms. when I am cruise about 75 or 80 it below 3000 rpm.

check all the rountain stuff like spark plugs all that good stuff. Is there a check engine light on? Does it run rough like the other member said?

that's the way the auto transmission shifts. It uses your throttle position to determine when to shift, ie. if you're just cruising your throttle position is probably below say 30% so it shifts at 3k RPM every time, if you're throttle position is say 60% the ECU will determine you're trying to get somewhere faster and let the transmission build up the RPMs to give you more torque.

It will also make a difference in gear changes when you have overdrive on or off. With overdrive off it's basically only using 3 of it's 4 gears and changes the shift points accordingly.

lol,the only 'governor' on the 7afe is its cut off at 6500ish rpm or its lack of power to push the car any faster. the little geo has been past 100 before, 110 o on the speed and about 6000 rpm on the tach in 3rd (automatic).

I would not play with the governor unless your use it for drag or race they make it very hard to remove and by pass. I personal would not play with it but I beat there someone who done it.

There are a few things that could cause an artificial 3000rpm rev limit:
- Ignition timing is way off
- Mechanical timing is way off
- Wrong igniter
- Wrong coil

Have you ran the ECU trouble codes?

I kinda worded that wrong kindasad.gif But my problem was,and still is that it really winds up at around 3k,I have been able to push it to around 3500-3800,but that seems to be as far as it can go.With the speed thing, after installing a short ram intake,I have got it to 100mph.Is it just driver error? Also does anyone know if a '94 would be OBDI or OBDII?Much thanks,SV

If you rev it up in neutral does it go above 3500 rpm?

Okay, the car is a manual, and if it's in neutral,it still winds up alot at 3k.I am in the process of doing the plugs,(Should of taken like 5 minutes, but Autozone sold me a bent plug.)And aswell, how would I check ignition timing, and mech timing?I have never ventured into transverse mounted engine until now.Much thanks,SV
