Hey everyone.
I'm gonna get the alarm in the mail soon and i want to know what wires i need to tap into. My 1st question is: where do u guys drill the hole for the red blinking light? i want a place where it wont affect my car much if the alarm burns out. 2: do i need a diode for the alarms un/lock door wires. (so when i'm in the car and i push the button to lock the doors it wont burn my alarm) yup i have power locks already. the box says"Door Locks & Parking lights Built-In Relays" 3: the brake light thing. i was reading a post b4 and it mentioned a wire at the tail-light fusebox. where is that? and how do i attach that? 4: what wire (color and location) is the parking light relay, so the lights blink 4 the alarm. 5: this alarm has remote start. the box says "Built-In Start Relays,Accessories,Ignition,Starter Outputs" so what wires do i need to play with ( coomer?) yea i never did this remote start installation b4. and dont worry i have an automatic tranny. 6. I'm thinking about installing a proximity senor with this car. so i can leave my windows down while its infront of my house. where should i mount it? well that is about it. thanks in advance. i just need to know what these wires look like and where they are at. |

1. I drilled my hole right below the dimmer knob. I've also seen them to the right of the clock, and on the tops of the door panels.
2. If you've got built in relays, and you only have to hook up two wires to your existing door lock wires, I don't think you'd need a diode, but you may want to put one in anyway, just because you never know how exactly the alarm's relay is setup. Diodes are cheap, so I'd say put one in if you've got some laying around, just to be safe. 3. What are you using this for? And you want something that gives you +12 volts when the brake pedal is pressed? If so, I tapped into a green and white wire in my kick panel, so that when I press my brake pedal, my remote start turns off unless the key is in the ignition ON position. 4. The parking light wire is supposedly a green wire in that big group of wires from the ignition column, but I was never able to find it, so I'm simply tapping into my parking light fuse in the fuse panel. 5. As for remote start, you'll need to hookup a wire to your brake wire so that the car shuts down if the brake is pressed and the keys aren't in the ignition ON position. You'll also need to hookup your neutral safety switch to the alarm, so that you can't start your car in gear. Also, you'll need to hook up your constant +12 volts wire, your two ignition ON wires, and your starter wire at the bare minimum. This thread has more information about these ignition wires. 6. I'm really not sure on proximity sensor mounting. I kinda wanted one on my car so that when people get close, the windows would automatically roll up, but I decided not to do that. Be sure to have a look at this too. Even though the diagram is for my alarm, it should help you a bit. And be sure to test all of your wires, stay away from the air bag wires in the yellow tubing, and disconnect your negative battery terminal before you work on the electrical stuff. If you've got any more specific questions, just let me know. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

I was thinking about drilling the hole in those assesories addon plastic things, but it was too low and i would think a thief wouldn't see it. i'm thinking about putting the light on the steering wheel plastic cover rite infront of the gauges. or next to my cd player.
the thing that worries me about hooking the relays directly to the lock wires is that the celica has a lock moduel and i read something about a negative trigger system. (what negative trigger??? my alarm system uses built-in-relays, so i assume its gonna send out 12 volts) so i'm just worried about how to do this. And coomer if ur ever interested in finding the parking light, well its in the far back corner next to the firewall, i think it was green and black. it was pretty hard to find. i had to trace it from that green wire u were talking about. that green wire is a micro switch and uses little power, so if u hook up 12volts to it, it will burn out. the the12volt.com guide said it was located at the Dimmer or Fuse Panel hmm. neutral safety switch?? where is that at? I'm thinking about mouning this sensor on the roof or something, so it can get a clear view of the inside of the car. hmm i dunno. |

Above the negative trigger locks, that just means that you will need to send a ground pulse to either wire in order to unlock or lock the doors. If your alarm puts out +12 volts for the locking wires, then just use a couple SPDT relays in order to send ground signals to the locking wires.
As for the neutral safety switch, I'm not sure where it's at or what color the wire is, but it should be a wire coming from your gear selector area that will give you a ground signal when the car is in neutral or park. Hope this helps. Also, thanks for the parking light wire location. Do you know exactly where this wire is at? -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

Well, I got the car alarm today. And i'm gonna install it tomarro. Hey coomer, how did u splice the wires (like cut a section of the plastic back). And about the ignition start wire, i dont know how that will actually work. Because if i just splice the wire then the original wireing will still work and someone can start the car. I'm alittle confused on that. can u clear it up 4 me. the installation instructions that came with the alarm is junk.
do u think i could write a How-to-article on this? This post has been edited by Hanyo: Sep 13, 2003 - 5:14 AM |

To splice into the wires, I cut the car's existing wire, strip off a little bit off of each end, then put on heat shrink tubing. After that, I twist the car's wires together along with the extra wire, and then solder them, and then slide the heat shrink tubing over the connection and heat it up.
I'm confused as to what exactly you're asking about the ignition wire. Do you not want people to be able to start the car with the key, and only with the remote start? If so, then you'd cut the starter wire, and just connect the side that's not going into the ignition harness to the starter wire of your alarm. You could write a how-to article, but it'd be kind of tough to do because every alarm is different, and every alarm can be installed very differently in the same car. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

Never mind. I found the problem. in the 97 celica the ignition 1 wire is not blue+orange, or black and orange, its just black.

Here are the follow ups on the car alarm installation.
Well, the installation went slow and ruff bcuz i had some wire problems. But in all, it works, the door locks and unlocks, the car starts, and the hood pin is working great, and the kill starts is performing the way it should. i had run into a slight problem though, the shock sensor is not working anymore, its like there is no power to it, the LED's doesn't even light up anymore. I check the wiring from the unit to the sensor, and it appears to be connected. So tomarrow i'm gonna rip the whole system out again and double check my wireing. that is the only way i could see how to fix this problem. BTW What are the wires for the windows, to go down. i can't find them, i read the artical at the12volt.com, its just said its red, and red+blue. Are these wires negative triggered, or does it require 12 volts. I want to use the trunk pop aux to lower my windows. This post has been edited by Hanyo: Sep 15, 2003 - 4:14 AM |
