Have looked around and it seems none of the major companies make any for the ST, only the GT. Even have a neighbor who works at Toyota in the parts department who couldnt find any. Do these have to be custom made? I dont really think exhaust and intake will do much anyways will it? Maybe 10 hp increase if I am lucky?

K&N makes an intake for the st and you can find all the parts in the parts catalog on the main page

I am curious about this as well. Looking for some thing or things that will make the acceleration better.

I saw the custom CAI on the main page but am concerned about hydrolock. What are the chances of this happening and what conditions increase the risk of it?

I was also looking at a new set of headers+exhaust parts. Another member told me that I'd see about a 1-2hp. increase. Not exactly what I am looking for for the amount of money this would generally cost. Is there any truth to this or should I look elsewhere for an increase?

If you really want an increase in throttle response, drop in a 4age. biggrin.gif

There's really not much we can do with our cars for increased HP aside from a turbo or an engine swap. I have a short ram intake on mine and did notice *some* throttle response but truthfully, not much. Also, hydrolocking is not an issue with SRI (and I'm in Oregon, I should know!). (CAI presents that concern) Upgrading the exhaust will help too, but realistically, with all this you're looking at maybe 5 HP increase I think. Keeping it tip-top helps of course; clean fuel injectors, removing and cleaning your throttle body, intake manifold, making sure your fluids are fresh and your sensors are all in good working order. Basically you have to just enjoy the better gas mileage as the trade off for a slow-ass car.

If you want to experiment with a short-ram intake, I have a custom SRI with filter that I'm not using and would be willing to let go of for cheap if you're interested. PM me if you are. Otherwise, GL!

if you want a CAI AEM sells a bypass valve for them its like 30-40 buck but well worth the investment

Definitely would go with one of those if I put in a CAI. I guess I am a bit hesitant to put one in (thinking about the custom shown in the documentation pages) because the hydrolock problem scares me. laugh.gif

Let's say there was a thunderstorm and I was cruising down the road, would I have to worry about it and be EXTRA careful with my driving?

Now, this seems like a given, but you couldn't leave it installed in the winter time, right?

I've been told that the only worry is submerging the filter in water, say a flooded street or something. Rain bouncing off the street and such won't cause hydrolock.

There is only a small difference between the CAI and SRI in our cars as far as HP increase. Therefore I prefer the SRI because the sound is better, and you won't have to worry about the hydrolock if that still scares you.

So, if I popped in an SRI, would the gain at least be noticeable? After some reading, I guess the gain isn't all that extreme but my hope is that I may notice at least some of an increase.

And as far as sound is concerned, what is it exactly? Can't say that I've heard one up close. Is it something you hear as you drive on down the road or when you are idling or...?

You can leave the SRI in year-round, definitely. We probably have about the wettest winters in the US, maybe barely short of Seattle, and I had absolutely no problems whatsoever with my sri this winter.

As for sound, you'll hear it most when you accelerate (open up the throttle!). There's something really gratifying about that sound, especially if you drive an ST and there's just no chance in hell you're ever gonna get any power on a stock engine anyway. It's like driving a fast red car when you're... uh... compensating. laugh.gif

my weapon r sri was my first mod so all u hear is the intake.
its a pretty good and simple mod to do if you are just getting to know your car.
