by the term "strength" do you mean weight? (for example 5w30 or 10w30?)

As for brand, many people on 6gc.net and the stateside tuner world SWEAR by Mobile 1 synthetic motor oil. As for weight, if I recall correctly, 5w30 is what is spec'd by Toyota and that is what should be used in the 3sgte.

Depending on your location (tempature), I have read that you can go anywhere from a 30 to a 50 weight oil. (colder climates you would like a 30 weight oil, warmer you would like the later)

Edit: Russia......I will assume its cold year round... (sorry if i am wrong.) but with my limited knowledge im going to bet the farm on 5w30

If you have access and availability MOTUL 300V or 8100 is EXCELLENT oil.
In colder weather, a 0w40 or 5w30 is suggested.

You have to decide if you want regular or synthetic.
For regular I use 10w30 Castrol.
For synthetic I use 10w30 Mobil 1.

I found the 5w30s to be a little bit too thin of an oil for the 3s, in terms of oil pressure and valve noise. 10w30 seems to work the best for me.

As far as anything better then that, you are just wasting money on marketing and gimmicks. As long as you change your oil ever 3,000 miles, almost any brand will due.

After googling his location, hes more north then we are Lagos. About as north as Novia Scotcia. This is y i said 5w30 because of the change in oil viscosity due to tempurature. For You and me, 10w30 is fine year round,. but in areas like russia and novia scotia it can reach as low a - 20°F something below and would drasticly change your oils viscosity

devilsden97,
You all understand correctly, thank you! In the winter we have very cold (-45), it is very hot in summer (50). Therefore, oil is difficult to choose!

ok.. now that the LOL cat has made an appearance and the whole "oil weight" discussion has taken place.

MY Final Verdict: 0w30 year round. (after some research, I read that 0w30 covers from -35°F to 100°F....idk how but apparently it does) or 0w40 in winter (cold months) and 5w30 in summer (warmer months [if you feel lucky go to 10w30 just remember to change it before it gets to cold])

/thread? (officially)

why are you so keen to attempt to end threads?

does ending threads make your pee pee bigger?

I wouldn't use 0w30 in a celica though during anything but freezing weather.

Acting as a zero weight when cold it could potentially not provide sufficient protection during cold starts and allowing for excess wear.

5w30 or 10w30 is perfect for celicas year round.

edit:

So after speaking with my father (18 years work expierence with Texico/Havoline in the Lubes and Greases specificly motor oil) and he confirms what i said.

0w30
^^^^^^

and if you need MORE proof other then my word about my father rep. i have 2 astm books for tests run in sub zero temps on oil viscosities. (tests were preformed in a cold room at -40°f in conjunction with 5 automakers, and 6 oil companies [exxon, shell, texico, etc)
