hey everyone,
I found a box of synchromesh at work and remebered all the good things you guys said about the stuff. Thing is, none of the bottles have a viscosity number on them and im pretty sure the gt takes 75-90. Do these even come in different weights? or are all synchromesh's the same? If thats the case then how did you guys know using it would be safe. I'm just trying to smooth out my shifts, especially from second to first. please let me know! -------------------- |

I think that stuff is over-rated I tried that penzoil synchromesh before and it didn't do anything for me 3rd gear grinded even more with that stuff in my tranny until I switched to royal purple synchromax 75w90 made a world of a difference now I have little to no grinds at all just don't use this stuff in honda trannys because they take different gear oil weight honda owners complained the most about rp synmax I wonder why ?? LOL
The penzoil synchromesh bottle even says not recommended for imports on the small prints if I remember correctly. -------------------- "To Protect And To Serve The Wealthy" -POLICE

I've never used anything else. When we did my 5spd swap I was told it was good stuff so I bought it and have used it ever since. It's been 67k miles since the tranny swap, I changed it out once 35k miles later with the engine swap and its been in there now for 32k miles. Probably should change it out again but I haven't had any problems at all. We have it in the Beams tranny and Dustin has it in his E153. We've had no problem with any of them.
So as far as it being ok for imports or the right weight, I'd say its perfectly fine. As far as it taking care of any grinding issues, I haven't had any personal experience with that so I wouldn't know. But if you got the box for free just try it. -------------------- |

okay so one says its a waste of money, the other says it doesn't have any negative effects. I'm just trying to get the notchy feeling out of my shifts.
I guess my next question is whether switching from a synthetic oil to this stuff will have any adverse effects. I'm currently running mobil 1 full synthetic so I'm not sure if its a good idea to switch to this stuff, which I assume is of the dino-juice variety. -------------------- |

i've switched back and forth between the mobil stuff and the pensoil stuff.
no problems. syncromesh is good stuff, i have no need to run it, so i dont, i have had good luck with the mobil1 75-90 stuff. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)
