Hi guys, im a newbie, had my celica st202 for only a few months now...... and was thinking of doing an engine conversion this winter.... but need knowledge on something.
ive read many topics on how the 3sgte engine is a good choice for more power, having previously owned a nissan pulsar GTI-R, the celica gt is a bit of a downgrade when it comes to power, id be happy with 240-280 bhp if poss, my main question is this: When the GT4 3SGTE engine goes into a gt, can i fit the running gear off the gt4 on my car so it is four wheel drive? ... and with or without floor-plan mods? i see no point in more power in a front wheel drive... cant put it down very well unless bone dry conditions as it is, (and england rains 24/7 anyway lol) ..your help and advise would be very appreciated guys... many thanks, Russ. |

Russ,
The 3SGTE can be installed without much trouble but you have to keep it FWD. Converting to AWD has been done a couple of times, but it requires extensive modification and fabrication. As for traction, that certainly is a big issue, I personally recommend using a Quaife LSD which will make a world of difference. If you search around on this forum you will find several excellent threads about the 3SGTE swap, the difficulties of the AWD conversion, and a thread or two by people who have done it. No doubt you will quickly be bombarded with "SEARCH N00B" replies, please don't take them personally, this forum is a very nice place overall -Doc This post has been edited by Dr_Tweak: Aug 6, 2008 - 2:30 PM -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |

Def look into that but also as you learn the car you'll get better at putting the power to the ground. There is something of a learning curve with the lightweight/FWD nature of these cars but trust me when I say a swapped Celica with your power goals is very streetable.

Since you live in the UK, save yourself a lot of hassle and a lot of money by selling your car and buying a real gt4.
