How hard would it be to adapt a 4A-GE Bluetop from a MR-2 to fit in my celica? What parts would I need to fabricate or buy to make this easier.
The reason I ask is because I think I found a cheap ~$200-$400 4A-GE that I am probably going to rebuild/build up as a winter project and hopefully for spring next year, fit it into my Celica. I know the MR-2's engine has the same orientation as the AE92 and such but I think the throttle/transmission linkage is reversed so before I buy anything I want to make sure I have everything I need to make this work. Also, I was wondering if anyone has ever built-up a 4a and if there were any recommended internal mods to do while I rebuild the thing (Cams mostly), and if I had to use the old 4A-GE ECU or if I could use a stand-alone. -------------------- ![]() (\__/) (='.'=) This is bunny. You can either use the 4A-GE ecu and get some wires made up by DrTweak [or do your own if your up to the task] or you can go standalone. The transmission you already have will mate up to the 4A-GE with a custom clutch setup, so no issue there and it's not like that 4A makes an incredible amount of power so it should hold up just fine. If you just wanted to use the transmission that came with the 4A I'm sure the procedure would be similar to fitting a MKII MR2 E-153 into a GT 6GC [Rear tranny mount, change the area where the shift cables attach, perhaps custom axles IDK - Again ask DrTweak as he will already have the info you need and can get you a clutch, wiring etc - everything you need]
For info on building up the 4A-GE I would join up over at club4a - they seem to have the best info on that motor. Good luck on the upgrade. Haha thanks for the info. I might go standalone, I think, especially since I want ITBs and new cams. I'll check out Club 4A as well, hopefully they have more answers about building up a 4A.
Also, does anyone know a better transmission/cheap transmission to use with the 4A. My transmission is a bit worn and this particular 4A is coming from an automatic car, so I'd have to get a new flywheel and clutch regardless why not get a transmission too. -------------------- ![]() (\__/) (='.'=) This is bunny. Yes - you can get one from any A series FWD Corolla or maybe check into the Levin trannies sold over seas - those often came Supercharged so I'd think there may be some added benefits like stronger axles, LSD etc. Probably gonna have to be some kind of custom axle setup as said before but if you research enough over at club4a you should find everything you need to know.

Consider rigging up a water line to the water pump because these motors have outlets located in odd positions. If you can get the radiator off an 91 GTS you are in good shape otherwise you will need to rig a lot of stuff that is in reverse on the motor itself vs the 7A. You can get away with mix and matching parts from the 7A and try to get it to work with the 4A.
I have an bluetop ECU for the MR2 if you need one, but this ecu has tvis. Also got the harness. Let me know if you need parts. Im basically putting a blue top into a AE92 running on a high compression ECU non-tvis. So far it starts and runs good need to test it out tho on the road. |

Wow thanks, that might save me a bit of trouble if I get it. How much would you want for the ECU and Harness.
Do I need the radiator from the GTS specifically or can I use the rad from any 4A equipped corolla or is the GTS rad bigger and designed to cool the engine better? -------------------- ![]() (\__/) (='.'=) This is bunny. So I think I am going to back down on the bluetop 4A-GE swap and maybe do the 7A-GE build (using the parts from this engine) or get a 20V.
