Steering Wheel Shaking, What do you guys think? Options

Around 60 mph and up i start getting some wheel shaking. Its pretty noticable too. i was thinking Alignment or Suspention. What do you guys think?

alignment, unbalanced tires, could be a number of things.

It's most likely tires. Mine was doing it around 65-70. I got new front tires
and it drives like a new car. Are your tires older?

My fiancee's car felt like it was going to fall apart at 55. And it's a newer
car. It definitely felt like there was something major wrong with it. Again,
it was the tires. Drives like a new car now.

i guess my really question is does anyone think its the steering arm or a wheel bearing? if it was anything like that wouldnt i feel a shaking all the time no matter what the speed?


The tires are brand new. like a few weeks ago. But i have had a lot of work does to the tranny and the Axles are a few days old. I thought maybe that the Alingment was messed up when they put the new Axles on, could this be the cause?

The arm being bent or something would cause the car to veer off to one direction, not really shake (in my experience) unless, say, it wasn't bolted tight. You can check that... but a bit unlikely. (I doubt a shop would do THAT shisty of a job, but shops have done worse )

Otherwise maybe bearings or links? IDK.

go get a front end alignment and have you wheels rebalanced. 9/10 its unbalanced wheels.

yah thats what i was thinking. Seems to me that i would feel it at any speed if it was the bearing. Im gong to get my new Springs and shocks and im going to do that. Also i also thought it could be the wheel itself. It seems that if i hold it with one hand it shakes worse then when i hold the wheel with 2 hands so after i troubleshoot the alignment, balance, shocks and springs, im going to look and see if my steering wheel is lose or something.

Can warped rotors cause this as well? I'm not sure if mine are warped (never had them checked), but I've had my tires rebalanced, picked up hub center rings and I still get the shakes at 100 km/h or above.

warped rotors normally only make a car shake under braking.


and your steering wheel isn't loose. It appears to shake less with 2 hands because you are applying more force than with 1 hand.

start with the simple (cheaper) and then go look at bigger (expensive) things

Its the tire balance.
I had the same problem, even right after having new tires mounted and balanced. Took it to another shop, only to find out that the first shop didn't do the job correctly.

I guess getting it done a third time can't hurt. THe first time it was done, the shop's machine was 1 week from being re calibrated, but they never told me that. When they rebalanced the rims after it was re calibrated, some of the weights were off by like 3oz. The only other thing I notice is that when I brake, it doesn't shake, but it does seem to pull to the side sometimes and the steering wheel will turn, but that doesn't bother me as much as the shaking.
