I'm trying to decide on which clutch to get - now we have a ST185 - but all 2nd & 3rd gen 3SGTE's use the same clutch whether they are SW20's ST185's or ST205's.
So, I'm looking at an Exedy Hyper Single here: http://www.exedyusa.com/corp/TH02SD the car is slightly modified - currently have a CT27 running 10-12-14psi (depending on weather) + supporting mods. i will be upgrading to a ST205 tranny & want to change the clutch while i am there to something that isn't as heavy as the stock or whatever one that is in there now. i am planning on going to a KO SB GT3071R kit in a year or 2 so i want something that will be able to hold the torque possibly close to 300awtq. i want the clutch to be as comfortable as possible, sprung & good quality --> not like a Spec Stage III which throws its cookies. i've asked on alltrac.net but i was curious what all the 3SGTE guys & gals are running in their 6gc's here & how you like whatcha got thanks! -------------------- '87 AW11 MR2 "Super R2" 4AG-ZE swapped Stage 1 Complete

I've owned numerous ACT clutches and I can say they have never done me wrong - no matter what car or the abuse. I usually just end up changing them out due to time and not because they are inoperable. I'll probably stick with ACT for life because of that. Check out my build thread for evidence - that old ACT evidently stood up to some serious pounding for a very long time. First pic on the page [about halfway down]:

What's the difference between the 4 puck and 6 puck clutch? I went with the 4puck competition clutch set-up with my s54 tranny and loved it. Now I have an e153 lsd tranny ready to be installed still waiting for an ACT clutch disc now. The ACT i ordered is also a 4 puck clutch disc. I was just wondering?

We run Competition Clutch in just about everything. For 300awtq you could get away with a stage 2, but my personal favorite is the stage 4, which is the same price as the stage 2. I have these for $379. -Doc -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |

Doc's hybrid Spec 2 has been working flawlessly for us since 06. Yours was one of the good ones, I blew up three spec clutches after yours and never used them again. I've never had a problem with Competition Clutch which is what we run on everything now -Doc -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |

Get a 4 or 6 pucks, they old more power and are better if you race / drag.
Also, try to not buy a sprung center since most of the time, when it breaks, its due to a spring that ****ed, and that is what you do not want to happened... We installed a 4 puck solid center in a civic which went to the drag strip twice a week and the clutch lasted for 3 years after what it went for another year in another civic... and then broke -------------------- |

If you want a drivable every day car, I`d go for either a clutchmaster FX300 or RPS ProStreet rated to 450ft/llbs torque...organic clutches that are drivable and mare than capable of handling many launches.

OK well, realistically Vadar won't be 600 AWHP anytime soon - I think a nice ACT will do her just fine
