Hey there guys, I'm going to be attempting the infamous Scion radio install into my 95. This has been very little talked about, and I want this to get out there so other people that want to attempt this can do so. Now, there are 4 different types of Scion radios, all of which are Pioneers. Here they are:
T1802, part #: ?, found in earlier Scions, is equipped with a 6 disc CD changer, and has ability to change backlight colors T1804, part #: 86120-0W100, found in 03-04 Scions. T1807, part #: 08600-21800, found in 04-06 Scions. T1808, part #: PT546-00080, found in 07-08 Scions. Notice this is the first one to incorporate an iPod plug straight from Toyota. I'll show the harness needed below. T1809, part #: PT546-00081, found in 05-08(?) Scions. This unit also has the iPod plug, as well as pre-outs, and a color screen. I am not sure about the fitment of this radio. Scion's iPod cable, part #: PT546-21062, only compatible with the T1808 and T1809. I bought the T1808, along with the iPod cable altogether brand new on Ebay for only $100 shipped, but prices can vary. I also forgot to mention that with all of these, you can customize your own startup message. Now, you might ask what the point of this mod is. 1) It is a factory radio. 2) It incorporates the playback of MP3/WMA CD's, while maintaining the look of the factory radio. 3) Some even incorporate an iPod plug. 4) The backlight colors can be changed (T1807 and above, I believe). 5) These pump out 160W, and are made by Pioneer just for Scion, these have some good power ratings. I personally love the factory look, with the performance of an aftermarket radio, and I'm sure there are others as well that feel the same. As far as wiring is concerned, the Toyota harness is plug-and-play with these, which is the beauty of it. Mounting however, might be a different story, so as soon as I receive my radio, I'll post up pics referring to the fitment of it, and explain a how-to on what is needed to get these to fit (IF it doesn't fit as is). I hope many of you will find this helpful, and will try to go out and do this yourselves. -Matt This post has been edited by GotToyota: Jul 28, 2008 - 9:23 AM |

There is still one more. the 6 disc changer one. T1802 which looks like the T1804 but can also change i think up to 6 different colors and i think you can set the text to what ever you want when the stereo starts up (correct me if im wrong). Got the pictures from ebay. The funny thing was when i bought my T1804 i thought it was this one... haha...

Also, post a pic of yours installed so others can have an idea of what it looks like. This post has been edited by GotToyota: Jul 28, 2008 - 9:40 AM |

Just got back from work and everything was here in the mail. I just want to say though that the iPod cable I posted is NOT compatible with the T1808, they use completely different plugs. To fit the radio itself, you have to work with the brackets to fit it in. I will be modifying the bezel piece shortly, and I'll try to get pics of the end result.

I'll post an update tomorrow guys, but the Toyota harness plugs right up to the radio, and it sounds very nice. I'm impressed with it so far, and it looks really sleek.

I just finished up the install. I was going to post a how-to, but I'll just say that this is what is needed for it to fit:
1) Figure out which way your brackets will work. If it sits too high or too low, it won't fit in the bezel spot. 2) Trim your double din space that's in the bezel, or under it, with the surrounding areas, or both. Blackbullet didn't have to, so I assume he just trimmed underneath instead of extending the double din space like I did. I'll post pics tomorrow. |

I finally took some pics today:
I had to cut around the bezel to fit it in, because I couldn't move the radio further back as far as the brackets went. The pictures don't do it justice, it looks great in person, and sounds even better then any aftermarket deck I've owned. EDIT: The part that broke off was because I slipped with the dremel tool while cutting the plastic. I'll probably be getting another one soon and making a better looking opening. good looking radio, i knew it will fit, but with a little trim of the bezel. Did you trim in the top as well or just the sides?

I got the same amp, it came with a connector to hook it up to a normal speaker wire...this is off topic of this thread though What i did was connect a wire from the connector behind the stereo because there is 3 power wires to the stereo i believe. This is the wire that when you turn your key to ACC it powers up. I connected that to a switch( for on when i want bass and off when i dont want any) then from there to the amp. without the switch, everytime you turn the stereo on the subs will always be on. I could get pix of the wire connected in back if you guys need it..let me know By the way GotToyota...It look great..can you try to get a night shot of the stereo? and where did you put your ipod wire? -------------------- |
