Do you have the kit that's in the link above? If so, how do you like it, and have you upgraded the kit at all since installing it? -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

Thanks for the info. So with the front clip, you weld it on to your own car? Is the steering column and pedals ...ect... from your car going to be connected to the front clip without any alterations?? I would think just swaping engines would be easier (and safer?). Has anyone done this? You learn something new everyday.

LOL no that's not it. the good thing about getting a front clip is you get everything that is shown in the picture. And you also get the AWD transmission so you can convert your car to AWD. It's a lot better thatn just getting the engine. Sometimes the engine doesn't come with the wiring harness and the ECU and those two things are hard as hell to find. If you get a front clip it comes with it.

how easily does the 91 gt-4 engine fit into a 6th gen? is it a direct swap or do you need to mod anything. also how much power does the gt4 engine produce. i am interested in this since i have an st and its auto i could possibly do the swap and change to manual at the same time since it comes with the tranny.

it be easier for you to get either a 4age or a 4agze. Since you have an "A" series motor those 2 engines would be your best choice. The 3S-GTE engine (gt-4) will not directly drop into your car. If you had a GT it would. And since you have an auto I can get you the front clip of a car that has the 4age or the 4agze and it comes with the tranny too. Here are the specs for each engine as follows for the 4age with the 5 speed manual tranny.
Yr. 95-Current 20 Valve, Twin Cam, 4 Cylinder, Quad throttle bodies, 1587cc FWD. 165 Hp at 7800rpm Torque: 16.5kg.m at 4800rpm $1800 plus shipping. It's just the engine and the 5 speed manual transmission. Yr. 91-95 20 Valve, Twin Cam, 4 Cylinder, Quad throttle bodies, 1587cc FWD.160 Hp at 7400rpm, Torque: 16.5kg.m at 4800rpm. 5 Speed Transmission This one is already sold for $1300 plus shipping. It is also just the engine and tranny. These are the 4agze front clips, these also come with the tranny as well as a lot of other stuff. Yr: 87-91 1587cc, Twin Cam, supercharged, 4 Cylinder, FWD, 165hp at 6400rpm Torque: 19kg.m at 4400rpm $2200 plus shipping. Yr: 91-95 1587cc, Twin Cam, supercharged, 4 Cylinder, FWD, 170hp at 6400rpm Torque: 21kg.m at 4400rpm $3100 plus shipping. The only difference between the 4agze and the 4age is that the gze has like 10 more horsepower. I think that the best thing for anyone with an Celica ST is to get the 95-current engine and tranny for $1800 plus shipping. Anyone PM me if you want them. |

The 4A-GZE is a supercharged engine rather than normally aspirated, so it not only has more horsepower, but also has a lot more torque than the 4A-GE. From the three or so sources that I've heard from, the 20 valve silver top 4A-GE is also over-rated on the horsepower figures. Xpander, who did the 20 valve silver top 4A-GE swap, estimated that his car is only slightly faster than a Celica GT. I think a better option for people considering doing a swap with their ST is the 4A-GZE, because it's got a lot more torque and a slight horsepower increase. Also, I've heard that it's cheaper to get more power out of a supercharged engine than a normally aspirated engine. With that said, however, the newer 4A-GE that you're talking about is the black top engine, which may not be over-rated like the silver top is. Also, I think that regardless of which engine you get, you're better off getting a whole clip, so that you get all of the accessories, bolts, mounting parts, ecu, etc., because it's very very hard to source individual small parts like that from Japan. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

I wonder what the black top looks like?(no, I'm not being stupid)
My only thought here is that the 4age is a better looking engine to mod. With the supercharger, you would have to remove it to get major power. HKS at one time made a 200+ hp kit for it but they don't now so... Think aobut it:20v with a strong bottom end. I'm thinking a rebuild and a turbo at about ten pounds of boost. That sould give me major power. Although I would need to do some major work to the drivetrain and ignition, I think it would give me great power. |

4AGZE 91-95 170hp at 6400rpm Torque: 21kg.m at 4400rpm 4AGE 91-95 160hp at 7400rpm Torque: 16.5kg.m at 4800rpm I guess that there is that is different between the 2. 5.5 kilograms difference for torque and 10 hp different. I guess that the good thing about the 4AGZE is that the top HP and Torque is at a lower RPM. Coomer, I think that they said that they were looking on a budget. I do agree with you that the 4A-GZE is a way better engine for the ST. Also, I agree that a front clip is way better even if it more expensive. |
