Problem 1: If you are looking at your fuel filter from the top view, do you turn the wrench to the right or the left. I've done this before in my camry dont know if theres a difference but. The reason why i say right because if you are looking at it from the bottom side, lefty loosey is going to the left, which is towards the right if you are looking at it from the top.
Problem 2: By the way, I slightly rounded my fuel line nut on the bottom side, what can I do with it now. It is a pain to even have it removed. Problem 3: Now I have a purolator filter which I read from the old threads is not a good fit. Whats all this about flaring reflaring, wouldn't that shorten the line and not make it reach the filter anymore? Don't tell me no ones ever had this problem before. Thinking of just changing the fuel line to braided ones.

left to loosen
you can cut the fuel line and patch in a new peice and flare it to mate to the new filter if you cant get the lower fitting off remember to use new crush washers on the top fuel connection good luck. -------------------- |

No, it is not left to loosen if you are looking at it from the top view. In order to make the proper direction you must always be looking at it from the nut side which is right from the top view and left from the bottom view. Please correct me if I am wrong I have changed fuel filters before. I am just stuck on this one.

left to loosen, if you're upside down then you need to keep in mind of that and adjust accordingly. loosen is always loosen.

if you rounded too much, use Irwin sockets to take them out. They work like wonders for rounded bolts and nuts. You can buy them at your local Home Depot, Oreilly, or Autozone.

I got a flare nut wrench but damn its really hard to turn. From the top view, I am turning the wrench to the right. I also used PB Blaster but still no go. Will soak and try again tomorrow. Any ideas?
Some say the thread is reverse meaning looking down on it, do I turn counter clockwise? My camry was clockwise. This post has been edited by trdproven: Aug 15, 2008 - 7:46 AM -------------------- 94 Celica GT

IIRC it's counter clockwise to loosen. Yes, I had this problem too with that bottom nut when I changed my fuel filter... I wound up trying to tighten the top one back as best as possible and driving it to a shop and asking very nicely for help! They were really nice and did help me.... That bottom one needs a line wrench so you don't round it out... but it's still a PITA to even get to, and I have small hands!

Griff - i believe its clockwise because if you are looking down on it, you must turn it clockwise. If you are looking from under the nut it is counter clockwise, can someone confirm?

yes, counter clockwise is left. left is loosen.
if you're still confused, take a jar in your hand. turn it left. turn it upside down in your hand, figure out which way you turn the lid to take the lid off. turn your wrench the same way. This post has been edited by Bitter: Aug 15, 2008 - 10:28 PM -------------------- |

exactly - I turned the wrench clockwise looking down on it because the nut is upside down.

You want to be very careful when it loosens up, it stays stiff turning after about 1/2 turn, watch the fuel line on the bottom you may be twisting the fuel line itself (the fitting tends to rust onto the line) (it happened on my '90 st while working on a missing problem on #4 cyl, turned out to be a bad exhaust valve) the replacement of the factory replacement line was a trip! As additional info the dealer (parts) said the fuel filter going bad was very rare.
