So on some days when i drive my babe i can smell oil burning... she has 110k miles on it anything i can do?

Seems like your valve guides are going bad, or u have excessive cylinder to wall clearance and your scrapper ring is not doing the job anymore. U could dump in those additive that thicken your oil but its just a temp. fix. With any luck u may just need new valve guides. If u need new rings u may need a rebuild.

damn... hmm i remember griffgirl saying that its normal for toyota engines to burn oil after 100k and they will still last til 200k at least

had my 7afe that burned about 1/4 quart for every 2 tank fulls, and it ran until 228K miles before we pulled it and rebuilt it for more power. SO yea it will keep going, just keep checking that oil level and making sure it doesnt go low, just make a habit of checking it every monday or something.

its possible... and im sure probable.
but if oil is being burnt... its no longer available for lubricant use. so essentially you would be wearing out all of your internals prematurely. theres a chance it would be fine if you keep up filling it constantly and whatnot, but in the money you will spend on oil, you could have fixd the issue... my .02 -------------------- The question is not how far. that product is called restorer. i used it and it works pretty well. it is hit and miss. it basically goes through and covers the walls. it comes in three sizes obviously you want the four cylinder version. you can also replace all of the gaskets. but if it's not burning much don't worry too much. just keep checking your oil.

run engine until hot
check compression 1/2 can of seafoam in engine oil, idle for 20 minutes, change oil and filter. recheck compression -------------------- |

U check compression with a compression tester. Basically its just a tube that screws in your spark plug whole and pressurizes that cylinder and combustion chamber. But no need to do the whole seafoam thing right off that bat. Just check comp. and if its bad in a certain cylinder then just put a small amount of oil in that cylinder, if that brings up compression then its your rings. Yeah but like everyone else my 5s burned oil for a few years, i would add about a quart a week and it would be fine.

low compression isnt always a worn engine issue. infrequent, missed, or neglected oil changes can gum up the ring grooves in the pistons causing the rings to stick IN the grooves and not seal to the cylinder, allowing oil past and burnt and allowing compression past into the crank case of the engine.
a quick diagnosis is: with the engine running remove the oil fill cap. it should NOT be blowing alot of air out. a little blowing out is ok and it should not smell like exhaust. -------------------- |
