Rules: * Only one submission per 6gc.net member * Only one submission per car * Photos that have, or are materially similar to those, featured in calendars for previous years are ineligible for submission * Photo must feature a 6th gen. Celica (d'oh). Heavilly modified cars (such as complete front-end conversions) are permitted * <s>Deadline is 31st August midnight GMT</s>. I will extend the deadline by a few days but we really have to wrap this up soon. * Minimum image dimensions: 1650x1275 * Recommended image dimensions: 3300x2550 * By submitting an entry, you are assigning a copy of your copyright to the Producers for the purpose of producing the 2009 calendar * Include in the body of the email: ** Photographer's name & 6gc.net screenname ** Owner's name & 6gc.net screenname ** Details of the camera, fstop settings, film type (if appropriate) and any other technical details about the photography and image processing used that you want to share. Additional rules for the front cover: * Must feature at least five different 6th gen. Celicas * Artistic license permitted (eg if you want to create a montage, collage or other mash up) * Please include owner details for all cars featured * Email subject line must clearly state the submission is for the front cover If you submit an entry and then take a better photo before the deadline, you may email the address above and ask me to replace your original submission with the new one. Photos taken by the owner trump photos taken by another member in the event of a conflict of the rules at the top of this post. Here's where BloodyStupidDavey & GriffGirl are at with it as of today. GriffGirl has found a way to have these made on an as-ordered basis so no one actually had to go directly through her; once the calendar is available for sale, they will be shipped within 24 hours of placing the order. They will be full color, full bleed spiral bound 11" x 17" and will cost $24.95 plus shipping (about five bucks for shipping in the US, a little more for Int'l.) If you order them in multiples (say the whole Houston crew wants to go in and have them all shipped to one presumably not floated away location) there are quantity discounts that increase in percentage with the qty. ordered. 2-11=5% off, 12-49=10%, etc. We feel very strongly that images that will appear in the calendar shall be chosen by poll, but GriffGirl will dictate which images will go into that poll, to be determined solely by using her professional judgment as to whether or not the image is viable for print or not. Having almost 15 years of experience as a graphic designer, GriffGirl is more than qualified to make this assessment. If we feel there is an image that is not suitable for print, we will contact the person who submitted it and request a higher resolution image. If one cannot be provided, it will not be considered for publication. Once that assessment is made, our decisions will be final and not open for discussion. We are not going to produce crap so someone's feelings don't get hurt. If you don't like the rules, don't buy a calendar. errrm, and how come this 'dictatorship' has emerged?
I'm sure everyone appreciates that someone is willing to make an effort but isn't this a little 'forward'? "You will submit your car serial number to ME" -------------------- |

errrm, and how come this 'dictatorship' has emerged? Hopefully it will be a benign dictatorship. In the last few years everyone has assumed that someone else would do something with the result that nearly every year the unofficial calendar either hasn't happened or has been very late. This year I thought I would take the initiative. If the community doesn't think I am up to the job or someone else wants to volunteer then I will gladly step aside. It is a thankless task. QUOTE "You will submit your car serial number to ME" I just wanted some easy way to track an individual car without any effort. I almost typed registration number but then realised that people would likely be twitchy about sharing that. Serial number seems pretty low risk -especially considering vairous threads about SR model registries, GT4 registries, earliest 6th gen. celica, latest 6th gen. celica and so on. Oh, and I have sent an email to Coomer as a courtesy. This post has been edited by BloodyStupidDavey: Jun 16, 2008 - 1:18 PM -------------------- Davey

I just would have expected a 'hey guys what shall we do about the calendar' thread rather than a 'This is exactly what you must do in my calendar' thread and do you not think you're taking it a bit far with all the rules? If 2 pictures look the same, don't use them both. I don't give out any details about my car's ID and i don't recommend others to do so either. I am sure there are plenty of people stealing and cloning cars that would love to get their hands on details of cars appearance and ID information. You can't be too careful mate. There are people here who are careful about who has pictures of their car and how they are used, and rightly so. Not having a go, i commend your enthusiasm, just maybe could have gone about it better matey -------------------- |

HMMMM - Might I make a sugestion? I've seen this with other car enthusiast calendars and I always thought it made them look a cut above the regular BS calendar:
Can we have a small picture in picture [if you will - or picture on the calendar portion of the fold out real small up in the corner] that highlights one particular section of that car [ie the trunk shot for Audio nuts, the engine bay for highly modded cars, the interior for Interior nuts etc]? Man - I am explaining this poorly. Allow me to demonstrate [for example only]: Yes I know the picture sux, yes I know the layout sux, no I'm not submitting this for calendar inclusion [ ] - it's just a quicky sketch to show you what I mean. The small highlight picture can also be placed next to the month above the grid showing the days for those of you who are so in love with your own photography that you can't imagine anyone sticking something else in the view . it would just liven the calendar up a bit so that it doesn't look so boring. Simple picture with calendar below = bleh and been there and done that. to BloodyStupidDave... & to manphibian:
IMHO... timing is just fine. I believe we all remember calendar 2008 story . So I think is better having it ready on Noverber than on February... Also I like that idea of clear rules however not all of them. 1. I will not send anywhere my VIN or my current registration. If anyone wants unique id of my picture just name it "Malpaso" or "SS-four" (no one is using this because it's my invention ) 2. "links to the image" is that mean I must find server where I can share high-res image? Photobucket.com allows only up to 1024x768 if I remember right... Why not just sending them attached by e-mail? 3. Info about my camera and settings????? Who cares? I do care what is in the picture not what camera has been used... ...and in the other hand some info is missing: 1. Type of file is not important? What if I do not send *.jpg but *.bmp (less compression, higher quality)? 2. What if I make widescreen pictures? So aspect ratio not 1.3 but 1.7? 3. Are acceptabe all art-styles of picture? (blured background, less saturated background, effects with light, effects with contrast, HDR, etc.)??? -------------------- No more replicas... This is evolution... This is SS-four :)

(blured background, less saturated background, effects with light, effects with contrast, HDR, etc.)??? 1. I wasn't asking for VINs just the 5 or 6 digit serial number. As you are the second person to raise concerns about this, I'll delete this rule. 2. If you want to attempt to send me the attachment then by all means do so. But be aware that large uncompressed images may be against your ISPs acceptable use policy, can cause problems for mail servers and may get bounced for being over a mail server's message size limit. My mail server has a 10MB limit but your mail server may have a lower limit. 3. If you don't want to share camera and processing info then that is fine. There are a few photographers on here that would be interested in such info and I was planning to put some of the info inside the back cover. Second set of questions: 1. I can work with pretty much any common file type but most print houses prefer jpeg or png format. This means that if you submit in a different format then whoever gets the calendars made may need to convert it to jpeg or png before printing. I'm sure whever takes on that task will work with the original photographer and do their best to get a first class conversion of the image but if you are at all worried about this step or would like to retain control you may want to consider submitting in jpeg or png format. 2. If I produce the calendar then the paper will be 11x8.5". Just like last year, if you want to letterbox the image yourself then you are welcome to, otherwise the producer/printer will do that for you. 3. As far as I am concerned, anything goes. Personally, I really like the ideas suggested by DEATH and 808celica. One thing to bear in mind: as the rest of the community will be voting, it might be wise to appeal to the masses. I know I listed a lot of "rules" but I really want this to be a lightweight process. Consider them more as guidelines - my motivation was to maximise the likelyhood of getting a quality product at the end of the process and to try to make things relatively fair. -------------------- Davey

You can save the images as JPEGs if you use the highest setting (12) and keep it RGB. If the pixel dimensions are large enough, you can even reduce it to 150 dpi if it's higher than that. Compression shouldn't be an issue, and it won't sacrifice image quality. BMP really isn't practical. What's most important is that people taking pictures use the HIGHEST resolution setting on their cameras. Even better, if you can, the images should be saved on your camera as RAW files (not JPEGs) and then you can convert to JPEG when you upload it to your computer. The fewer times the image is resaved as a JPEG, the least amount of loss you'll have w/the image.

I congratulate him.
glad to see someone is stepping up to the task. Please do not hassle him. Send what you wish to him, I see where he was getting at with the serial # stuff. That way I cannot send pics of tufy's car and call it my own etc. then tufy comes after him, he has some proof that one of us is full of it. Keep up the hard work! My car will hopefully hands down make it onto the 2010 or 2011 calendar -------------------- you know why they put sheep at the edge of a cliff.... that way they push back!

It's important for you guys to know that you CANNOT take a small picture and just bump it up in photoshop to make it "fit". Increasing image size results in a decrease in resolution/photo quality, particularly if you're resizing the image more than about 20%. You can downsize, but you really can't upsize so much.

^ True, one of last years was terrible
Anyway, with the lack of other volunteers, i guess it's over to you Davey. I'm sure you'll do a great job The printing and everything was good last year so maybe we could use the same one if Dan (playr) could hook you up? I think to keep costs down for the majority, they should be shipped out from US/Canada. -------------------- |

Which one turned out poorly? I never saw the printed version. I could guess, a couple of them were a little on the "iffy" side. . . you can PM me which one it was if you want so no one gets offended or anything. It's my fault anyway, I'm the one who did all the photoshop work on last year's calendar. (2008 you meant, right?)

Not blaming you, you did a great job, it's not like you're getting paid for it is it? -------------------- |

Oh yeah, I remember that! That was my attempt to fix it! Actually I don't think I had anything to do with the wrong file printing in that case. Meh - coulda been. IDK since I only did the photoshop work and had nothing to do with the actual calendar itself.
And yeah, not like I got paid for it or anything! Maybe if I help out this year someone will kick me down a calendar. -------------------- |
