Hi guys,

I had been losing oil recently but could not find out where it was going. There was no black/blue smoke from the exhaust, no leaks and I was only losing oil when driving on the motorway at high revs constantly(70mph).
This had been going on for about 6 months now and i kept topping oil after a long journey on the motorway.
Last week, whilst on the motorway, I realised that I'd lost some power and was finding overtaking really hard. Pulled over and in first gear, car was misfiring really badly and engine was juttering at idle.
Took of spark plugs and one of them had oil deposits on it (thus oil is entering that cylinder) and spark plug is not igniting.

Anyway, need some help now. What's my best option?
a)reconditioning the engine (which would cost me £600 plus fitting so we're looking at £1K)
b)getting a second hand engine and fitting it (prob around £600)
c)get a new car

I'm struggling to find places that do second hand celica engines. Do you guys know anyplace?and how much would it cost?

Thanks guys..any help would be appreciated greatly

I have no idea where that's at, so i'll give you a generic answer.

Junkyards.

If i knew where you were at i'd try to recommend places by name... Sorry. (i dont get out much laugh.gif )

But seriously, most all junkyards (that i've been to atleast) have engines redialy avalible, and you'll be needing a 7a-fe engine if it's a 1.8L.

lol!
i'm in Kent which is on the East coast of England. Near ramsgate, margate, dover etc.
Anyway, do you know how much they normally charge for the engine and how much would a garage charge to fit it?

oh, man i'm in the US, lol. I've no idea what stores you've got there... I know here, it'd be maybe 500-600 for the engine (i'm basing this off of a recent Nissan KA24DE that i had priced; 7a guys, Please interviene with better price estamates if i'm wrong)

You can rent an engine hoist from places like Hi-Low or PepBoys, it'd be a one day job if you have everything ready to go, and setup. Atleast if it's a direct swap-out. Unless you're upgrading or something, it shouldnt be too much. But if you'd prefer the shop, then it'll probably run another 500-600. This is all USD.

IDK,it's a rough estimate on my behalf, but hopefuly it'll help you to get in the right direction.
