a guy around here has a geo metro with a honda K-series motor in it. supposedly dangerous on the track but ppl still call him a ricer. the moral of the story is: one mans beast is another mans rice.... naaaa nvm that didnt work Oh dude, around here (Detroit), they absolutely hate anything that isn't part of the Big Three. I think one reason they attack Japanese cars is because it's embarrasing for them when they get beat by one. Anything Japanese is called a "rice burner" around here. I see 30 bumper stickers a day that say, "Out Of A Job Yet? Keep Buying Foreign".. That's no exaggeration. At least 30. I named my car Spitrod because people hate her...and because she's actually been spit on around here before. Nice, eh? |

I think there's a limit to "personal taste" and just something terrible...there's plenty of examples of that, like the Contour in the first post, or that crappy bondo-bodied Civic pic that was going around.
Personally though, I think proper paint makes a big difference. There's a giant gap between trying to make something rusty look nice, than putting something nice on an already nice vehicle. |

I'm only like 3 hours away from Detroit and its a completely different environment up here. Thanks kind of scary though, nobody should feel the need to dis/hock on another person's ride just because they won't work for as little as Mexican Workers and because they don't produce economically viable vehicles. -------------------- (\__/) (='.'=) This is bunny. if I had a hood scoop for my stock 5SFE I don't think I'd be laughing at other "fraudulent street racers" Cool air is your friend, Hurley. It's not meant to look "modded".. It cost all of $30. To tell you the truth, I was actually looking for a clothes dryer wall vent to spray primer black and toss over my intake..but you can't find the aluminum ones around here anymore. When I throw a huge sticker on my car that says, "TURBO", you can Pistol Whip me. Yeah, taskbot, Michigan UAW workers don't seem to have a clue. They don't realize that in Ohio and Kentucky, All the Japanese Auto Plants are UAW..so is it unpatriotic to drive a Ford or Chevy there? It's nuts. My old CRX used to get kicked way back in the day. They never seem to stop blaming other people for their mediocre everything.. |

They where used on race cars that had flimsy and lightweight hoods that would break opening and closing if you tried to attach them normally. They actually are the attaching points. They added convenience when working on the race car because you just lifted the whole hood and set it aside.

and what exactly are the hood pins for? actually hood pins are important but most people get them for looks they can be usefull with carbon fiber hoods where the latch area can become weak, if it becomes weak the hood flies open or if in a front end crash a carbon fiber hood doesnt crumple like a normal alum. hood does....imagine getting your head cut off by your hood. hood pins help keep the hood in place. btw this thread=fail This post has been edited by fastgt: Sep 22, 2008 - 10:51 AM -------------------- 2011 Spice Orange Mini Cooper

Carbon fiber is not strong enough to withstand the crash, It's not strong enough to go thru the glass and the windshield arms, and quite frankly, Unless you've got a really good solid filled in hood (witch would defeat the weight reduction; and none are built solid that way) I don think it'd even be able to withstand the strength of your neck You're right about hood pins though, They are designed for CF, FG, or KVLR hoods, And designed to keep them down. Most of these weight reduced hoods do not even have the ability to use the standard latch. They'll rely strictly on hood pins. Bottome line, Hoodpins keep your hood pinned down. -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! D-man FTW! Damn D-Man - most impressive. I am aware of what hood pins are used for, I was questioning his use of the hood pins on a stock hood. Is the hood latch broken? If so why not just get a new one from the dealer for like $25? That's probably about what it cost for the hood pins anyway, right?
