Okay. It's late. 2:30 am..
I just went to the gas station for a pack of smokes. When I was getting out of my car, I hear what sounded like an import pulling into the parking lot. I look and see this local hillbilly dude in his Ford Contour. He threw on some performance, honda-esque muffler, took the hubcaps off his wheels, sprayed them black, and put some racing stickers in his rear windows. I'm anything but a "car bully"...but are these people for real? I would feel like the biggest ass driving around in a fraudulent "street racer"... The only thing he was missing was the cardboard body kit. I seriously laughed out loud in the parking lot. It's insulting to those of us who spend every day under our hoods and in our cars. |

Oh crap!! What kind of smokes did you get?
Just playin For real though, i know what you mean. I live in the cheapest section of the "Rich-People" side of town. (mostly new-money) and i see this kind of thing all day long. Apart from an armada of mustangs... There are some pretty radical grocery-getters; and i find myself laughing too. Once time, i had just pulled in at a kroger, and a man rolling in an early 90's Geo-Metro (pretty riced out) asked me if i wanted to race... ... I told him "Why, We're already at the grocery store? Were will we race? To the pharmacy or day-care?" Granted the joke went right over his head... so i gave him my "Attack on the track" saying, and he called me a pus and burned out. I giggled... Kid must have been like 17 or something. I though he would have been better off trying to pull a "Hey Mister" than trying to street-race at noonish on a sunday What a retard... We actually had a geo metro in town with a turbo and was rumored to be fast and ran 12's. I used to joke around about it when I seen it. The guy lived on my block and had a body kit for it. Turns out he was the real deal, as a guy who builds cars that lives across the street from me named Mike knew of him and sold the guy the parts. But I get what you guys are saying. Not exactly sure how the mods are going to feel about this thread being "existent" though.

i hate the term rice and the way i look at it, everyone has their own way of expressing themselves....theyre just doing it on a budget....looks like crap but it makes them happy Rice doesn't bother me (look at my screen name, ) because we all have to start from somewhere (unless we were born into money, which I don't think 99% of us were). When I was in college, I rode in a Civic. I was poor as dirt, but when I upgraded from my steelies to 15" alloy rims (yes, 15"!) I was thrilled. They were from a stock later edition Civic, but that was all I could afford at the time. Later I bought $20 seat covers from Costco and again, was quite happy with the change that it made. It wasn't until much later did I learn what the term RICE meant, but unless you ride in Lambos, Ferraris, etc, I don't think you have any business calling someone's ride cheap. Hell, I still consider my [current] cars RICE, but only in the sense that they are modded in a way that many people think is poor in taste. -------------------- 2002 SC430 (WC) - 19" SSR Comp-H, Daizen swaybars, Sparco Demons, JDM Soarer conversion, carbon fiber spoiler, Injen intake, front strut bar, drilled/slotted Brembo rotors 1997 Celica ST (DD) - 17" ADR, ViS Zyclone CF hood, ViS CF hatch, K&N intake, Invader body kit |

No sir, not poor taste; Your Taste
And flavoring your car for your own amusement is FTMFW! although it's funny to think of a domestic being ricey... lol. I know, i'm such a hypocrite. I'll laugh at other peoples stuff, and i'll take it when they laugh at mine. As long as we're all happy in the end. Laughter is concitered a state of happyness... -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! D-man FTW! Damn D-Man - most impressive. I think D-Man and I need a 7-11 to hang out in front of.
I understand the rodded geo and all that...my thing is that I saw this car the day before and it was completely "stock".. Meaning - he tossed the muffler and the racing stickers on over night. I doubt he had time to turbo it or do any real mods for that matter. Personally, I just couldn't drive around with such pretentiousness. Again, I think it's insulting to the people who actually work on their cars regularly. We could have bought a bunch of stickers and called it a day too. As far as the budget issue goes - I have an eight month old boy and my celi is my DD. I'm on a serious budget...so if my car was stock, there's no way I'd stick a huge "K&N" sticker on my back window. I'd save my quarters. The money spent on wheel paint, hotrod stickers and a cheap exhaust could have covered an intake. That's a start, right? This post has been edited by Spitrod: Sep 19, 2008 - 12:16 PM |

I cant remember the last time i almost fell over from pointing and laughing so hard... The owner didnt think it was nearly as funny though :\

I think some of it might be for irony too.
My buddy has a dodge shadow daily driver and every time he finds some cheap-ass ricer esque part he adds it to his car. Its pretty funny to see him roll around in that thing. Its pretty hilarious how many people think he's serious about that car -------------------- (\__/) (='.'=) This is bunny. I once tricked out an 85 cougar with a "ghetto" Theme. Back when the rappers were talking about "Wood Grain" I actualy had some left over wood paneling for my trailor skirt, and did some interior work with it
There was also someone who had said something about "chain legnth" and i wound up with this: -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! D-man FTW! yeah, i never sanded the body filler or nothing... left it as was, called it "texture"
I also said it was a color changing car... as the years went by the lack of paint turned to rust so it went from silver to red. I also put carpet across the dash and doors and put stick-velcro on everything i owned (cell phone; Keys*; ect.) and would stick my stuff in award places EDIT: YOU SHOULD NOTE THE V8 5.O SUPERCHARGED ENGINE I HAD IN THIS BEAST THOUGH!! people would laugh, the folks at the track would laugh... everyone would laugh until i put my foot down This post has been edited by D-Man: Sep 19, 2008 - 2:40 PM -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! actually...
Status = Blown the fcuk up. after i started getting some problems from it; (and my gal was B!TCHEN like crazy) I wanted to get into a newer car, that's when i bought my 03 Cougar. So i got it to run just good enough, went to the track, smoked a couple of big names (including a very pretty trans-am), Pulled into the racers parking lot, Stood on it, and yelled "$5,000 Cash, Who Wants it?" Sold that ugly thing for 3 1/2 grand; took me less than 10 minutes. Put that money down on a new 03' cougar EDIT: i used some of that dough, and tricked the crap out of that new cougar. Too bad it was stolen and molested though Funny thing is, the 85' had no keys. the cylinder was bad, so i replaced it with a direct PUSH button. That's it, just push the button and it started. No body jacked with it. For years, no one did anything to it... but i leave the pretty one on the street ONE TIME, and it's gone... W/ working keys, ignition, and alarm and everything... WTF?! See? That's what I'm talking about, D-Man... I respect a beater looking car with balls...awesome. When I used to drive my CRX HF, I didn't dare put performance stickers on it because she was straight stock. |
