alright so when im on the highway and in 5th gear...say 65 im at about 3200 rpms...this seams to high to me...also should be noted that most highways in texas average about 70 and cruising at 3400 rpms seems to high...thoughts?
thanks |

Short gear ratios. It's not *too* high... for our cars. A tad high maybe, but I'm not so sure it's anything to worry about. Maybe check your air filter, make sure you have good air flow, current on tune up, etc.

Your rpms are fine. Mine are the same. ~60mph in 5th gear is about 3k, and 70 or so is about 3400. So you're good!

For me 5th gear + 3k rpms= 60mph, sounds normal to me.

it should be the same for everyone running a 5sfe and stock tranny.. only things that would alter it (slightly) are the size of your rims and tires.
but yea, i don't have freeways here so i can't complain but at times when i take my car on the hwy, driving 3500 rpms hurts my wallet whereas larger vehicles can cruise the same speed at 2300rpms my next car will have to have a 6th gear.. -------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

I paid closer attention to the RPMs on my way home last night, at 60 mph I was at about 2900 RPMs - so I kind of take back what I said, 3500 RPMs at 60 MPH is a little high. I was at around 3100 RPMs at 65. Granted, I'm in an ST and you're in a GT, so I would imagine my RPMs might be a bit lower than yours, but I'm not sure. As for wheel size, I'd imagine larger wheels would = higher RPMs but I'm on 17s w/215/40r17 tires.

The ST and GT trannys are geared very differently. The GT is much higher reving than the ST. -------------------- |

S54 is relatively close ratio box, the S54 with LSD is even closer ratio, at 70mph my car would be doing very close to 4k in 5th........ a little bit higher than my old 3s-fe ss1

That's weird, I'm barely under 3k at 70 MPH. You'd think the 7A-FE would have to work harder right?

Nope.. its too high, mine's about 2700 rpm for 60mph (almost 100kph) and around 3200-3400 for 140 kph. I also have an auto GT-S.
