I want to know just how good stock GT brakes are. are they actually decent? do they need alot of work? will a simple fluid, line, rotor upgrade and pad upgrade make them respectable?

I don't have a 3s, but our stock brakes are pretty good for factory. I might get some better pads than OEM next time I need them though.

Change/Flush your brake fluid.
Find good high quality pads and a set of nice rotors (brembo) and some SS lines and you are MORE than sufficient |

IMO yes. good pads are key. The three of us are swapped and I agree 100% - the brakes are plenty good stock. Best pads I've found so far are the TRD/OEM but I'm sure EBC, Hawk etc are great upgrades but not overly necessary. Stay far far away from parts house brake pads. The simple brakes mods you listed are all you'd ever need. Braided SS Lines are one of the best upgrades you can do to any braking system. And as Playr correctly points out on the other 15 of these threads that have popped up in the last few months - fresh brake fluid changes are a much overlooked "upgrade" that really makes a difference. Now, for the record, the 4 Channel ABS system I had on my '99 are far superior to the simple non-ABS ones I have now or ABS ones I had on my '95. At some point down the road I will be swapping them into my present car but there is quite a bit of work to that cause it's not just the ABS itself but sensors on each wheel and probably many other items as well i can't remember at 6am ![]() Oh and look for LuBu's build thread - he has successfully adapted the ST-205 brakes onto his GT - if you feel like you want to go farther with brake upgrades - this is the way to go IMO. you are going to be installing abs on ur car? I've thought of that myself but figured it would be waaaaay too involved.
also, could you post a link to the st205 brake thread? i remember reading it a long time ago but for some reason it wont show up on the search O.o -------------------- ![]() |

It's not a priority anytime soon but perhaps eventually
It's in lubu's build thread: http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...l=st-205+brakes [Lubu - Hope you don't mind bro] This post has been edited by DEATH: Oct 10, 2008 - 1:40 PM -------------------- ![]() ENGINE: '93 RC 3S-GTE/WRC CT-20b [18-20PSI] PERF: TRD/HKS/ARP/NGK/MSD/ACT/Blitz/STRI/APEX'i/TwosRus/GReddy/Magnaflo/KOYO SUSP: Tein/Bilstein/SusTech/ INT: SS-III SEATS/Toyota Hyper Sports EXT: WRC/TRD/404 Its a safety feature so that people like you don't end up killing themselves or everyone around them. I personally have Toyota brake pads, stock rotors, and I recently flushed my brakes with Dot 3 synthetic fluid. IMO the brakes are great, I wonder how the TRD pads compare. I'll probably end up replacing the rotors sometime in 09' just so I don't have to worry about them because I think they're stockers at the moment.

IMO, ABS SUXXXORS!!
my first 3 6gcs were non abs, and they performed way better than the weak ABS system on my new one// If your a good enough driver, you will know the limit of your brakes and will hold it at that limit....as soon as abs feels its CLOSE to the limit it softens up..... appearantly GT4 brakes are easier than we thought, you might want to look into them swappers...... |

I love my non ABS Celica. My MK3 didn't have ABS and neither does the Celica, the car just feels better without it in my opinion.

I totally agree, I haven't driven a car with abs but I drove my dads renault clio and really tested the brakes and my dad goes on how well it stops but I thought it took forever, and yes without abs you learn the point where you can brake at your limit without it locking and if it does lock just take it off ![]() |

lol you dont have to tell me about no abs in the snow. Chicago is merciless afterall. Could someone give me links to threads about abs retrofits in the 6g?? even though i probably wont go through with it, id like to learn whats involved. The wiring alone makes me shudder. I want to see how someone overcame all that.
ah the never ending quest for knowledge. -------------------- ![]() |

i upgraded my st with GT disks in the rear and front... throw that in with steel lines and good brake pads and its a good combo. I also use dot3 brake fluid since it has a higher boiling point and wont cause brake fade as quickly.
